Can anyone explain me, how the heatsink removal have to be carried out, with UMA and discrete graphics versions? I was wondering if the back panel removal is enough or the entire system board must be removed..?

Fan removal can be carried out only by removing back cover, with both UMA and discrete versions, am I right?

PCIe, especially if NVMe compatible is significantly faster than the SATA protocol. Once we got to see PCIe 2242 drives (NVMe ones), it should be a meaningful upgrade even if the main mSATA port (in case of the 7450 discrete graphics edition) is populated with a top notch SSD. Questions - especially nvme compatibility are waiting for answer here, and the drives have to make it to market. Hopefully the question is not the if but the "when":).

Thanks for the news! I was about to upgrade to A04 but now I can skip that one.

A question: does anyone know the speed of the eSATA port on the e-port replicator? Or is there a docking station around the corner with the new USB 3.1?

I've just received an E7450 with i5-5300U / 8GB / 128GB / 840M / FHD (matte) from the UK Dell outlet. It has the nominal 54Whr 4 cell battery which batteryinfoview reports as being 52.540Whr - below the nominal capacity but still almost 20% more than the battery in my E7440 which is about 3Whr below the nominal capacity. My E7450 has the LG046D panel which, in first impressions, is slightly better than the very good AUO panel in my E7440.

I don't normally need the dGPU capability of the 840M but was relying on the comments earlier in this thread that the dGPU version of the E7450 runs quieter under normal use than the E7440. So far, this appears to be confirmed. Running wPrime 1024M caused the fan in the E7450 to speed up to 3880 rpm with the CPU temperature reaching 71C. In comparison, in a test on the E7440 at the same time the fan reached 6710 rpm with the CPU reaching 87C. A further factor helping the E7450 is that the CPU package power only reached 14W (sustaining 2.7GHz) while the E7440 goes up to 18W (and 3GHz). However, there is little difference in the wPrime scores. I see various settings under the Power Options which might mean that the speed of the i5-5300U could be eased up while staying close to the nominal 15W TDP.

I like the larger touchpad of the E7450 but am less impressed by the narrow Enter key.

A further adwantage of the dGPU version, that the cpu doesn't throttle if loaded with a cpu+graphics intensive task.

How are E7450 owners finding their batteries? My E7450's battery capacity has dropped from 52,540 mWh (already below the nominal value of 54 Wh) to 50,646 mWh after one full charge cycle. This is the Full charged capacity as reported by BatteryInfoView.

I suspect that the drop in capacity may be a one-off adjustment because I was recording the power drain and once the battery capacity had reached 10% the reduction in capacity increased noticeably suggesting that the battery wasn't yielding the expected power output when almost empty.

Does anyone know how many PCIe lanes are hooked up to the WWAN socket? It looks to be keyed to Type M, which means it could be up to x4. A modem shouldn't require more than x1. Does anyone have hard specs from Dell, or can anyone find specs on the DW5808E or DW5809E?

There is some detailed technical info in Dell's Latitude 7000 Series Technical Guidebook.

    However, it just states: 2 "M.2 expansion slots: 1 WWAN/SSD and 1 WLAN/BT/WiGig" (page 16)," 1 3042, 1 3030 M.2 slots" page 39 ) while page 57 indicates that the host interface for the WWAN is USB 2.0.

SiSoftware Sandra reports this information about the mainboard. I wonder whether the PCIe x16 interface is for the Nvidia GPU.

if you are dreaming of a high speed PCIe SSD in the M.2 slot then remember that faster = hotter.

Yes, I am interested in a PCIe SSD. I have found a distributor of the Apacer one, and I was going to try the 64GB. It's listed as an x2 device, and I'm trying to confirm whether it will interface with the port before I buy it.

The only way we will find out if the SSD works is by trying it. Dell's teardown guide shows SSD as one of the labels on the WWAN slot
    [IMG]
but the prodution motherboards down't show the "SSD". This could either indicate a change of heart by Dell or just be recognition that no SSD of the right form factor was available.

    Hi!

I read entire thread and searched some other forums but still have some questions regarding Dell Latitude E7450 upgrade.

Please let know is it possible to install 7mm 2.5” SSD into E7450 (Intel UMA version)? As far as I understand some users successfully did it. But how exactly 7mm unit fits 5mm slot? What bracket (support frame) should be used in this case to hold and protect SSD? Dell offers 4X5X8 frame for 5mm HDD and FCN4M frame for mSATA SSD but it seems they don’t have any option for 7mm. And what about rubber spacers for shock protection of 7mm SSD? I do realize that some mSATA SSD are fast enough but high-end 2.5” are faster anyway and have other pros that’s why I decided to take a try.

My second question is about RAM. Did anyone try using performance DDR3L with 9-9-9-24 timings in E7450? Does it recognize 9-9-9-24 and works correctly? I am asking because I stuck with E6400 and Kingston HyperX few years ago and the only way to make them work together was editing the SPD. As a result RAM worked as 5-4-4-12 instead of 4-4-4-12 that’s why I would like to avoid similar issues this time.

I also contacted Dell agent with these questions and was told that 7mm drives are not supposed to work with E7450 as well as CL9 RAM. They said it is on my own risk. I also asked regarding Non-Touch FHD LCD panels option and all of them are IPS according to Dell. Just in case if someone is interested.
