Thanks again, John! It’s good to know that E7450 accepts CL9 memory with no issues. According to Notebookcheck LP140WF3-SPD1 has better Black Level and Contrast while B140HAN looks more attractive otherwise, according to given measurements. And the bracket you mentioned 0WPRM is for E7440 so it won’t fit E7450 most likely. I guess the one you need is 4X5X8.

I took the factory 2.5" HD out of the 5mm bracket, and installed the 7mm SSD. Only thing I changed was leave out the rubber spacers. the SSD fit without any issues. It's a tight fit but so far after about 5 months there has been no issues.

To upgrade the SSD, do I need to get a mSATA card or can I get a 7mm high 2.5" SSD like the Samsung Evo series?

Either, but you get no loss of performance with the mSATA SSD relative to a 2.5" version and you don't have the extra cost of buying a caddy for the 2.5" SSD (unless you E7450 was shipped with a 2.5" drive). mSATA also gives a small weight saving. Note that the 840 EVO sereies has been superseded by the 850 EVO series although there is still some stock of the older SSD in circulation.

I can now confirm that 0WPRM, although nominally an E7440 part, fits the E7450 fine and holds a 7mm SSD in place. The screw holes are in the same places although the E7450 only uses 3 screws. The mSATA SSD adapter ("interposer") also looks to be the same part as on the E7440 with a screw hole for the screw that is not used.

My friend's E7450 (non-dGPU version) also confirmed that I had made the right choice in getting the dGPU version because I wanted less fan noise. His display was the AUO panel which looked to be the same as that on my E7440 with the slightly sparkly finish due to the anti-glare coating. The LG panel on my E7450 is slightly less matte but has a slightly sharper image.

I had an opportunity to compare my dGPU E7450 with the iGPU E7450 and can confirm the previous reports that, under normal usage, the fan noise of the dGPU version is noticeably more subdued. The dGPU's fan looks as if it has been designed to move air efficiently unlike the simple fan of the normal version.

While the fan noise increases under heavy use conditions, the sound is mainly that of fast moving air instead of the fan itself going frantic. I wonder what the difference in cost of the fan is.

Guys, please help me out here. I'm currently looking between a SSD based on 2.5", mSATA and M.2 interface.

My understanding is that the default drive is a mSATA, but a 2.5" will also fit. Some posts suggest that I might need to get some cage for that, others say it's ok. So far so good.

What about the M.2 interface? I read some discussion on the M.2 interface. Can the E7450 take 2 SSDs? One on the mSATA, and another on the M.2 slot?

EDIT: After much reading, it appears that current M.2 SSD are "too long" to fit into the M.2 slot, so it appears that at present there is no way to support 2 SSDs? Am I correct?

For the m.2 you have to look for a 2242 sized (42mm short) model WITH PCIe interface, SATA-type won't work in the wwan slot.

The default drive is mSATA, true. The discrete graphics version takes only mSATA, the intel graphics version has a slim 2.5" bay with (removable) mSATA interposer.

Will the e7450 take 2x16gb ram? Pretty sure I want to buy this. Any difference between the i5 and i7, I've found dual core i5 and dual core i7 to be basically the same with very little performance difference. Are there higher resolutions than 1080p or screen mod for that?
