    The manual http://topics-cdn.dell.com/pdf/latitude-e7450-ultrabook_Owner's Manual_en-us.pdf (Page 53)
says only 16GB total. However I think it is still worth a try if you have memory laying around...

The CPU spec sheet also says only supports 16GB so that may actually be your restricting point.

Difference in 5200U vs 5600U is pretty small:
    3MB vs 4MB Cache
    2.2/2.7GHz vs 2.6/3.2Ghz

so you have to decide if those bumps in speed/cache are worth it to you.

Personally as laptops are already limited and since I use mine as my main work PC I am not willing to take the performance cut.

I don't believe Haswell or Broadwell can address a 16GB sodimm.

Intelligent Memory (the company that makes the 16GB sodimm's) has a compatibility document here:

    http://www.intelligentmemory.com/fileadmin/download/compatibilitylist.pdf

They claim that any machine using a Broadwell processor should work, so my thought is order one and if it doesn't work, just return it. If you really need 32GB in an ultrabook then its going to be worth an attempt.

Cool, I was just relying on memory - I guess it was just haswell, rather than haswell and broadwell.

Has anyone tried the new BIOS (A07) on the discrete edition? Any issues yet?

    You can't put a 30mm in a 42mm slot can you? won't it fall out over time/movement/etc?

It depends. Some slots of screw holes for various lengths (80mm, 42mm etc). I'm not sure the 7450 has screw hole for a 30mm long card though. you might be able to find an adapter for it to lengthen it out to 42mm.

Or use a screw or two to pull down a small piece of material that slightly overlaps the edge of the board (to pull downwards on the board)?

Is it possible to install linux (ubuntu/mint or debian) in the e7450 and dual boot it with windows? Is it ok to resize and partition the one only ssd?
