Interesting, on the Premiere site it would appear they only have the E7250 with mini cards for storage. Going to make it difficult to put in my Samsung 850 Pro

    1. 80GB Solid State Drive Selected
    2. 128GB Solid State Drive Mini card + $43.40
    3. 256GB Self Encrypted Solid State Drive Mini card, Opal Compliant + $198.40
    4. 256GB Solid State Drive Mini card + $136.40
    5. 512GB mSATA Solid State Drive + $334.80
    6. 180GB Solid State Drive Mini card + $86.80
    7. 512GB SED Opal 2 Solid State Drive + $570.40

That and there is only the FHD option in touch, not FHD non-touch. Strange since I configured the same machine last week and I could get a drive with an interposer and FHD non-touch. Grrr

So I just received my E7450 today, and while it is very similar to the E7440 I used to have, one thing I was not prepared for was the step down in surface materials. On the 7440, the cover was aluminum and cool to the touch. On the 7450, it is black plastic, albeit nice plastic. The 7440's palm rest was soft touch plastic, but then ringed by an aluminum band. It is now just a single plastic piece which runs from the beveled edge to the keyboard tray. It really looks like a consumer grade laptop from the 90s, and certainly doesn't have a premium feel like the 7440 did.

If it wasn't for the discrete graphics, which of course make up for any tactile disappointment, I'd be returning it for an outlet 7440 at half the price. If you aren't getting the discrete graphics version of the 7450, strongly recommend that you go that route.

Have any of you bought this with the 512GB Opal 2 SED SSD? I'm trying to find out what model SSD Dell uses for that. I'm hoping it's eDrive compatible. I have the 256GB SED in my E7240 and it's a Samsung SM841 which is not compatible. Thanks!

I Just received 3 E7450's today and very disappointed they took the msata slot way. I don't believe that HCA port will work for anything except a wireless, or LTE type of card.
If you look at the pictures of the HCA card in Post #53, it does not have contacts on both sided of the spacers.

I don't think it could ever support a M.2 drive and think its a huge step back. I deploy these to consultants doing demo's and with the E7440, i could put a MSATA as boot and another 2.5" drive as a secondary drive.

I am expecting the discrete graphics version soon. Is there any way to hack in a standard 2.5" SSD, or shall I get a bigger mSATA unit?

Just received my E7450 with 8GB Ram from Dell (1x8G). Ajd I want to upgrade it to 16GB RAM.

What module I should you? Kingston site tells me to use "Kingston KTD-L3CL/8G".
Could I use "Kingston KVR16LS11/8" instead?

you can use any DDR3L SODIMM. L is the voltage version. Standard DDR3 is 1.5v. DDR3L is 1.35v.

I bought it with 256GB, but planning to replace the SSD with a Samsung EVO 850 1TB piece - not using bitlocker, however it is compatible.

With the discrete graphics version, there is no where that a 2.5 in drive could fit. Things are packed together pretty tightly. I would suggest getting a larger mSATA drive to compensate.

However, the SD card slot is sort of recessed along a beveled edge on the left side of the laptop and allows sd cards to sit essentially flush with the side. I have left an SD card lodged in there for almost a month now with no issues. That could be one way to up your storage for pictures/documents/media or other files where speed of access is not an issue.
