    Probably a non-touch version of the E7450?

Yes, the non touch doesn't have glossy screen like the touch version does. I can't find any tests of the touchscreen display that show brightness measurements :( It seems all the big reviews sites don't care about this laptop much and see it only as a "refresh".

This review puts the touchscreen e7440 brightness at 351, which if true, makes it even brighter than the matte version. Not sure how scientific this is or not though.

It's flush with the laptop's body.

On Linux Mint, playing a YouTube video takes ~30% of all CPU cores (four of them, thanks to Hyperthreading). The back-left of the bottom gets very warm, but the fan doesn't make any noise.

    Got the same problem.

Here's a report of the double/repeating key problem occurring in Windows.

On the 7450, the repeating key problem has not been fixed yet by the latest BIOS (A01, as of today).

Check out this glossy-vs-matte screen side by side comparison. I ran that test back in 2009. Now I have a glossy ASUS UX303 (3200 x 1800), and I'm replacing it with the Dell E7450 with a matte screen because the glossy screen is just too annoying to use for business/software development applications where you need to clearly see what's on the screen. Maybe for watching movies or pictures in the dark a glossy screen is more fun.

Things I don't like about the E7450 vs its predecessor
    • The placement of the USB ports in the back. This may be good if you always use the laptop as a desktop replacement, but if you want to connect more than one USB device, it's very inconvenient to hunt for a port in the back, because you can't see behind the screen. Ports on the side has been the layout for years on the vast majority of laptops. Why did Dell have to deviate?
    • The keyboard dropped the excellent 7-row layout from the E6xxx series that had Ins/Del/Home/End/PgUp/PgDn exactly in the same layout as on a conventional keyboard. Now PageUp/Down have been moved above the arrows. The arrows are half the height and it's easy to press Page Up/Down instead. Also, the Pause/Break hey was removed. WHY DID THEY HAVE TO CHANGE THE KEYBOARD AT ALL?
    • The placement of the SD card slot is just dumb. You have to tilt the laptop in order to operate the SD card.
    • There's no longer a hardware switch to control wireless/airplane mode. This can be a serious concern in certain secure environments.
    • Under the SSD/mSATA slot, there's a wide data cable that sticks out. When mounting an SSD in that slot, it will stick out too, and there's also a pretty large gap on both sides of the SSD, so that I'd expect it to rattle. Once you screw back in the back lid though, the SSD seems to stay put...
    Is this progress?

Also, question: For those who want to buy this laptop and plan to replace the drive with their own SSD (e.g. a 1TB drive), which is better: buy the smallest SSD DELL offers (128GB), or the smalled HDD (500GB, I think). The SSD is actually an mSATA card plus an adapter bracket. That's what I have, and you can see the replacement in the picture. Would it be better to have bought the HDD version? Would the HDD connector fit an SSD drive?

I suppose that depends on your goal. I got the E7440 and mSATA in the bracket, I'm assuming the E7450 is the same, and swapped the mSATA SSD into the miniPCI slot, then popped in my WD 1TB drive. I'd say the small mSATA SSD for the OS would be preferable because then you can pop in whatever drive will fit. I believe there supposed to do 5mm hard drives, but I've not had any issues with my 7mm WD.

I really wish they would announce/give some sort of info when US customers will be able to get it with discrete graphics. My D630 is on one hinge and about 2 minutes of battery life. I can't hold out much longer.

Anyone managed to get a Discrete GPU from a non-Premier channel yet? Phone? Webchat?

Yeah Rossim80 that was mentioned earlier in the thread and noone knows if it will work cuz we can't get them. haha
Also noticed the capacity is listed at 8GB~64GBwhich I find rather small...

I too am waiting for the discrete version neotechpc - have you tried them recently? Webchat about a month ago left me no fruits. They had no clue what I was talking about.
