What games do you play under wine? Since steam is available I have not needed to use playonlinux.

    Heh Guys,

it turns out that I was wrong about the driver thing with Ubuntu. you should use the proprietary fglrx drivers. You get a huge performance boost in games over the open source one and you get about 80 percent of this system in WIndows.

Well it looks like I am having some bad luck with this machine. Dell came out to repair the broken audio jack and also to replace the power button as well. Now the laptop takes an additional 15-20 sec to turn on and show the bios splash screen and the wifi card just stopped working and is no recognized in both linux and WIndows.

Looks like I am going to go back to my UX31E temporarily until I can have a technician come out again with some parts.

Sounds like you're seeing a timeout on some of the pre-BIOS hardware checks maybe?

Yeah I am not too worried they are going to replace the board again in a few weeks.

    Hi guys,
I'm considering buying a Latitude 14 3000 series, because it's one of the few business laptops with a decent price (correct me if I'm mistaken). I would like to know how it compares to the 5000 series: is it that the 3000 series has only lower specs or that it has also worse materials?
    Thank you in advance!

    Hello looreenzoo,

I posted a video on YouTube awhile back on this laptop. Link will be below. But the laptop build quality wise is a step below the high end ThinkPad. It feels better than anything you can buy in a store and has the same build quality, maybe better as most gaming machines. I have not worked with the 5000 series latitudes otherwise I would be able to answer.

    Hey all,
I just bought one of these refurbished 3540's from the Dell outlet recently. The one I got had some issues with space bar not registering well. You would have to make sure to really press the space bar in harder, or press it at the top, because pressing it in at the bottom of the key wouldn't work. The graphics card also made an audible buzzing nose that almost sounded like hard drive activity during graphics intensive applications (games). I also thought the speakers were just really bad, but I think they were blown out. Dell sent me another one to replace it, and it seems in better shape. The space bar can still be a little problematic if you press it towards the bottom of the key, but is a bit better than the last one. Anyone else having space bar issues?

Mine came with Windows 8 pro, and I updated it to 8.1. I had the same graphics driver issues as everyone else after 8.1 update (either horrible performance or not being able to sleep). After messing around with it a lot and trying different driver combinations I got it working. I used DDU to scrub the old drivers off https://forums.geforce.com/default/...r-uninstaller-ddu-v12-7-1-released-04-26-14-/. Then installed the most current Dell Intel graphics driver, then installed this modded AMD 14.6 driver Modded Catalyst 14.6 RC2 (switchable graphics fix) - Guru3D.com Forums (you have to go into advanced boot options and disable driver signature enforcement before you install the AMD driver).
How's everyone else doing with it, any updates?
