    Bios 1.13.6 all OK
    Bios 1.14.4 cannot restart

MS will not honor because it is tied to the mobo, Dell have to provide a new key, in which they will. Unless it is a retail license, but if i had only 1 laptop i would go for a retail MS license however i have several. Seriously why would i need a retail license for a laptop ?

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying here.

Is Windows the only software license you're referring to?

Edit: n/m, I see you listed a few of the programs. I've not run into software being tied to the motherboard before, so I don't know why that's "only logical". It sounds like Dell is helping you out with the licenses; glad to hear that.

thanks mate, yep i hope Dell is really trying to help out, because i really don't want to reformat it, will have to wait and see, this is what i have requested Dell to do:
    1. change the mobo and provide a new license key
    2. update the Bios to 1.14.4
    3. Test and see if can restart (and i will test if all other features works ie type C port, HDMI, wake from sleep, switch graphics, etc)
    4. if there are still problems, to install back the old motherboard
i do hope their CS communicates this to their technician on site fro 1-4, so far (1) email says parts is not available and will delay a week (2) a chap calls me to tell me the same.
    i love my M4800............

Dell has a 60% discount on CTO 7710's here until the end of the year. I'm VERY tempted to get a fully loaded one as a christmas present to myself :D

Can't even buy a new 7710 from the U.S. web store anymore... Looks like they are trying to sell them off and phase them out, I suppose.

Found it. Seems like a fake discount to me. They list the reference price as 4700 chf for an entry model which is ridiculous. I played a bit with specs and the mid level machine with fullhd, 16gb ram, m4000, 512ssd is gonna run you at 2500 chf (=$) which doesn't seem as much of a deal to me. And I thought for a moment dell is doing this for real  Silly me
