It is to do with the intel hd graphics power sttings, i think if you set it to go to power saving mode while on battery.
Then when you switch to battery it it drops the refresh rate to 40Hz, then when you go back to AC it doesn't change it back to 60Hz

Thank you for your quick reply JKLeiss. Can you instruct me how to fix it? I have my notebook plugged in and when i restart it, refresh rate still goes from 60Hz to 40Hz.

Intel has a update out for graphic control. See here..Intel® Driver Update Utility

Down load that and it will tell you which one to get. I was surprised I needed the Graphic update.

Hello, I have a Dell Latitude E6520 with Intel 2720 and NVS4200. I also use the E Port Plus docking station with 2 external monitors (1 DisplayPort, 1 DVI).
I was wondering if its possible to have 3 external monitors using:
1) the VGA port of the docking station
2) or preferably the HDMI port of the laptop, so all 3 monitors receive digital signal.

Thanks in advance!

Thank you for your response trunkingguy. I used the driver update utility and updated Intel drivers. But still problem remains.

Hey all,

Sorry if this has already been asked (searched the thread best I could).

Once in a while, I'll find my E6520 in my laptop bag extremely hot. When I open the laptop I see that it's not sleeping.

I also have a customer who has the same laptop, with the same problem. In addition, she sometimes finds that the laptop will not even turn on when it is in this state.

We both have an E Port Plus docking station. The laptop is configured as such:

- Sleep when closed while on battery.
- Don't sleep while closed while plugged in.

Both are Win 7 x64.

My assumption at first is that the laptops aren't correctly going to sleep when removed from the docking station (plugged in) while closed. However, it is totally sporadic and I seem unable to manually recreate the problem. It usually works, and it's only on occasion that I find the laptop alive and awake, in my bag, while closed.

To be safe, I've started opening my laptop and manually putting it to sleep with the power button.

Any thoughts?

Hi Scott
Do you happen to know the corresponding item number for Latitude E6420 -- for the field service kit and just cable? I am trying to upgrade to 1600x900. Do I need a different cable than the one I have with my 1366x768 setup?

I searched ebay and the Internet but didn't find anything useful.

(I think my current setup has 40pin cable but not certain.)

OK, Thanks. :)

I already have a separate thread started. Or do you want me to post in the existing E6420 owner's thread?

As far as 40Hz refresh rate after restarting problem, another issue is that sometimes, usually after recover from sleep mode, I try to open Nvidia Control panel menu, and in the "select a task" menu, I Can see only "Set Psysx configuration" option. Also, only NVS 4200M is visible. Intel HD Graphic Family is missing. After restarting "Nvidia Control menu" seems to recover, and NVS 4200M, so Intel HD Graphic family are visible again, but refresh rate is still set to 40Hz. I Call Dell Hellas and they oped a case. I run Dell diagnostics tools and everything seems ok. I searched Dell forums and I managed to find out the same problem with an Latitude E5520 and a Precision M4600 (Sign In to Your Dell My Account. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
