I called Samsung and they said that if you want the spacer you would need to purchase the notebook version of the Samsung 830. I purchased 3 desktop versions so that is why the spacer is not included. So be aware before purchasing.
The very, very nice professional support person is sending out today a spare spacer he had lying around which I should get tomorrow. Now that's the way you treat a customer. Kudos to Samsung!

    Their are two versions.
One is laptop upgrade kit and other is desktop upgrade kit.
You can find which edition is bought with box contents and label.

    Hello all,

So my company just ordered me the e6520 as follows:

    2760QM Processer
    8GB Ram
320GB 7200 HD (could not get the SSD as it was just to much extra $$$)
    1080P Screen
    9 Cell Battery
Docking station (not sure if I'm getting the 'plus' yet...hopefully).

So I'm looking forward to it! Thanks all... I'll post more when I get it.

You could have selected 2gb ram and invested the difference in ssd.
You know dell charges premium amount for ram.
Again you can upgrade hard drive later.
Chances are dell uses sata 2. ssd (pm810) in sata 3 system.

    Enjoy your new machine.

My E6520 should arrive tomorrow and I have a few questions.

    1. I have Norton security which I get with my Comcast subscription, should I be fine with this or is there a different product that would be a better choice?

    2. My system comes with 4GB of RAM (2x2GB), I would like to upgrade to 8GB. I was looking at getting the G.Skill product from newegg, but I am unsure on which one is compatible with my system?

    3. I would like to do some of the benchmark tests that everyone speaks of on here to see how my system performs, how can I go about this?

    4. Any good books or articles I can read that may help me optimize my system (I would like to get rid of everything I don't use and learn about BIOS)?

If it matters, my system has an i7-2760QM, 1080 screen, and 4GB RAM (before I upgrade to 8GB).

Thanks for any help you can provide :)

Norton is a system hog. Microsoft Security Essentials is just as good if not better and is free. Most importantly, it does not bog the system down.
Any flavor of the G.Skill memory will work fine. I use it and find them rock solid. The QM67 chipset with the 2720QM CPU inside your E6520 will allow either 1333MHz or 1600MHz DDR3. You can even use the 8GB sticks for 16GB total! Likewise, the system will support SATA-III drives. Investing in a SSD is the #1 upgrade to focus on as that will show the most improvement in system speed.
There are many free and not free benchmark utilities out there and I tend not to recommend any specific one. I simply run the Windows Experience Index and if the numbers look good and are in line with what others are seeing, then I know everything is working.
Read this thread completely and these forums in general. Everything under the sun is here if you look deep enough and you will learn a lot from other users. In simple terms, I suggest a fresh Windows install with the installation of the drivers in the proper order [chipset always first!], and do not bother with any of the bloatware.
Enjoy the system. In my opinion, the E6520 is one of the best business class notebooks Dell makes.

The E6520 does in fact support PCI-E 2.0 out of the expresscard slot, which is great for eGPU use. See here for details.

My left speaker is bad. Vibrates with voice, sound, etc. Sounds like the cone or membrane is cracke or ripped creating the buzz when it makes sound. I called them and they said 2 weeks to check it out and possibly fix it. Now I wish I had the onsite service..2 weeks or more without my unit? To fix it myself is a big job. Have to remove heat sink and much more to get at it.
    What to do?

From what I've read it is a good idea to use MSE+MBAM+Windows Firewall? I also came across Threat Fire and WOT, any advice on what I do/don't need from here?

I plan on upgrading to an SSD after this semester ends and I am working more. As far as RAM goes if I get the 1600mhz will I have to change anything in BIOS or will it be a plug n play type deal?

I've had to do a clean install before, but I'm not sure about setting the drivers in proper order, does it automatically do this for you or how do I go about doing this?

    Thanks

All... so I was only able to get the Eport dock and not the Eport plus. I want to drive 3 screens, but I'm not sure if that's possible? If not, I want to avoid the VGA port at all costs if I only drive 2 screens. Can I use DVI for my main screen and then get a Displayport to DVI adapter to drive a 2nd DVI monitor?

Once I do that...will the VGA work on a 3rd screen?!
