    Anyone know if a CPU refresh is in the works for the 6520? Google has not been much help here.

    Hi G,

    I have a E6520 with the 2720QM CPU. Running 64bit W7 pro with the most recent intel drivers (chipset and less relevant storage technology) not from the dell site but Intel directly (as of most of my drivers).

    According to CPUZ (perhaps the same kind of tool as the i7z for linux) the cpu throttles down perfect. Idle state around 800mhz and under full load 2.2ghz.

    For benchmarking I use superPI (1m digits), with A05 -> 11 sec with A06/A07 17sec and throttling till 2.2ghz...

    I also tried to disable turboboost in the bios (hoping that the checkbox was wrong set) but no difference..

    Thanks for testing in Linux, solves another possible testing solution for me!

    Regards

    Thanks for reporting.

    So apparently the conclusion is the same (apart from the fact that i7z under Linux does not report correctly the fact that the CPU throutthle down to 800mhz): the A06 and A07 bioses allow the CPU to cover the 800-2.2Mhz nominal range but disable turbo boost. Well done Dell! :-(

    I will stay with A05 and suggest to do so to any owner of quad core CPUs (to the best of my knowledge dual core CPUs works fine with A06 and I suppose they will work fine with A07, also)

    Oh man!!! I just updated to A07 from A05 yesterday, hopinopg it would allow me to play with fan speed settings. I hope it doesn't throttle!!!

    Got a numlock problem here, for some reason the flag set in the bios to ACTIVATE num lock is totally ignored.

    When i get to the logon screen (windows 7) i see numlock is not enabled.

    Disabling/enabling the thing in the bios does nothing, not even Linux takes the setting in account.

    Anyone got a solution to this annoyance ? Btw i'm on bios A05

    Where can I buy a modular bay battery and maybe a 4-cell or 6-cell?
    Mine came with a 9 cell, and it's a little too heavy and bulky. I want to get some portability out of this beast.
