I have just received my E6520 from the dell outlet UK (i7, FHD, Nvidia)

I have a couple of concern and I would appreciate some feedback from other E6520 owners:

    1. The screen while loading windows - black background - has some shadings, it look like the screen brightness is not even across the screen (please see pict attached), this is visible only when the screen is opened only 30% (i.e about 30 degree angle) and when the screen is at the correct angle (i.e. 90 degrees perpendicular to the keyboard) I cannot see any shadings anymore. Do you have the same situation?

    2. There is no trackpoint on my keyboard and the top mouse bottoms do not work, does your e6520 have a trackpoint?

    3. Where can I buy a UK backlit keyboard?

    4. No W7 CD, where can I download W7 to do a full reinstall?

    5. I have a crack noise on the palm rest next to the right hole where the screen locks, do you have the some annoying issue?

    Thank you!

    1) I don't know...test it out for a few days and if it seems to be bleeding during movies/etc you should get it fixed.

    2) I have a trackpoint in between the letters GHB. See if they are cut out a bit.

    3) I don't know, Dell UK or Ebay I would think.

    4) Download Windows 7 - Microsoft Windows this might work. If it didn't come with a CD, where is your key written?

    5) Maybe under the touchpad for me, or maybe if I push the SD car slot (near the right palm) hard enough, but not really an issue.

    Many thanks!

Tried the download but the sites detects that I am not in the US and directs me to the UK stores. My keys is written in the battery slot, doea this makes any difference?

Do you the backlit keyboard or the standard version?

Pleased with the notebook however my old precision was better built

    2. I got one from the UK outlet and do have a trackpoint.

    3. You can use the Dell Backup and Recovery Manager to create disks. I get two options in 'Dell Recovery Tools', the second is 'Create OS or application media backup...'. Sounds as if you can create just the OS disk but not made 100% clear and I haven't used it. Otherwise, see http://forum.notebookreview.com/win...-7-download-links-just-like-vista-before.html

    5. The front of the base is held in by clips, rather than screws. Seems to be a design weakness, to me. The front right corner by DVD drive on mine makes an audible creaking noise as it doesn't fit absolutely tightly. I have resorted to a carefully placed bit of card to stop the creaking... Shame, as otherwise build is very good.

Yes I know that, but that doesn't really answer the question that I am asking. You know how many cells the bay battery has, so you probably own one or know more information about it?

    Please share!

What about the battery, is it fully charging? In the bios it says 97% healtly....after 2 charges it say 94%, will check again after few charge cycles and report back.
Overall I think dell outlet technicians do rush getting systema out and refurbished laptops are not thay good:
    1. Cooling grill sticking about 5mm out (not assembled correctly)
    2. All screws head are nearly stripped (wrong screw driver used by dell technician)
    3. Some screen bleeding (I can see some sort of 5/6 lamps) when the screen is open at about 20/30%
    4. Battery not fully charging
    5. Wrong keyboard, e6520 has a trackpoint in the spec buy mine is missing
    6. Poor customer service (keep it as it is and get a 9% off) or return it within 7 days...and get a refund.
    Not very happy so far.

Sad. If you are not happy, return and get another one from Dell outlet.

Outlet deals are amazing because you can often get one that wasn't opened, just returned.

    Hi Chris,

Well, personally I would not accept the problems you described above. Offcourse assembly problems can be corrected and screws replaced. The backlight bleeding is more a problem, I can't see that on my display (also the FHD).

About the keyboard, the representative I spoked to had various options according the keyboard. With/without backlight and with/without trackpoint. So I don't have the feeling it's a failure but more an option...

What amount are we talking? 9% off what? In the Netherlands, I paid 1300euro's for the system (I7 2720qm) and that even with a 30% rebate from my work. I would not except any problem :)

    Regards

EDIT: If you have a legal OEM key in your batterytray (which I assume) you can also find a copy of the Windows 7 Professional edition VL, available on MSDN. (note the VL, volume license not the retail) this version can be activated using a legal OEM key.

Scott, thank you for this info. Turns out the place I bought the screen from has 2 different versions now, one with a 30 pin connector and one with 40. They sent me the wrong version. I'm RMA'ing it now and getting the proper 40 pin version.
