Well, my mini Pci-e to Sata + USB card came in and unfortunately none of our three slots connect to the onboard sata controller. Anything we purchase will have to have its own sata controller built in ( Like the CoreStore MV Erblehoof is using ).

Oh well, at least theres proof now >.> I can still use it to add an onboard USB device though.

I thoroughly tested both USB and SATA on the card by wiring in a full SATA cable to the Rx +/- and Tx +/- leads ( connecting power to the drive from my desktop PSU ). As for the USB, I took apart a Dollar Store USB extension cable and wired it to the adapter. Seems like we have plenty of space to wire up a decent sized USB 2.0 thumb drive though ( Which is bootable ). I may do this just to run Leopard from ( Kismac purposes ).

    Hi all.
i just installed win 7 on my e6520. i have in device manager 2 display adapters:
    1. intel hd graphic family
    2. nvidia nvs 4200m.

I try to adjust resolution on my FHD to 1600:900, but there does not exist 1600x900.
What i have to do to add 1600x900 resolution?

I reinstall the driver on the appropriate one from the nvidia site(nvs4200m). I have more resolution options, nut the 1600x900 doesnt exist in the resolution list yet, and the customize button is blocked.

    Hi guys!

I just bought a dell e6520 and configurated it myself. After reading through couple of pages in this thread I found out 2 things that made me configure my laptop in a different way this time.

First of all, I just ordered the laptop with 2GB ram so that I can then just change this RAM to 16GB my self. Does anyone have any advice about what RAM to use for this purpose? Any specific brand or onlineshop link etc.. And also, It has to be 1333mhz right, Cannot go buy 16GB of 1600mhz?

2nd question is harddrive related. Once again I just bought the standard HDD drive so that I can pick it out later and insert my own SSD (instead of buying the SSD from Dell and get SATA II disk instead of III ).
I found this SSD drive on dell's shop actually, had a really nice price to it.
OCZ Agility 3 SATA III 240GB (price was 230$). What do you guys think about this disk together with htis laptop?

My third and last question is about the nvidia graphic card.. Ive heard some people overclock it a little bit since it actually comes underclocked. Anyone where who have done this, please let me know how that worked, if its worth it, how to do it. And if it will void my warranty when doing it.

    Cheers!

Check here ARK | Your source for information on Intel® products if your CPU supports 1600mhz RAM, or not.

The optical drive is sata 1.5 but it's slot is sata 3 capable. Just as the HD slot. I will check the e-sata port. I often have a drive attached.

Why install the old dell drivers btw? Use the manufactor drivers for all intel (nic, wifi, chipset, sata), nvidia parts. Most of the old dell drivers will be updated with windows update anyway..
