I just stumbled upon this little thread and I would like to thank you sir! Msata is indeed working fine, I used a Crucial M550 256GB it's plug and play. I also changed the Intel N6235 for the AC7260 and the memory for Corsair CMSO8GX3M2C1600C11 (2x4GB DDR3L).

I will try to answer some of the other questions people have here.

I have the 1600x900 display but it is not the best. Plenty of brightness but the up and down viewing angle is a bit limited, you need to adjust the screen in just the right angle.

Definitely, the ST500LM000 5400rpm SSHD is not the fastest.

There is no excessive flexing on the E6440 keyboard, it feels sturdy enough.

You are right, even with the newest Bios (A05) USB PowerShare does not work like advertised. When the laptop is off, powershare does only work with AC connected. However, powershare does work in stand-by!

In short, what is the advantage of the AC7260?

The only real advantage is that it does 802.11ac (2x2 up to 867 Mbps). It supports 802.11a, 802.11ac, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n. Unfortunately it has only two (2x2) antenna connectors. http://www.intel.com/content/dam/ww...ual-band-wireless-ac-7260-bluetooth-brief.pdf

However, be careful there are many different versions of the '7260' model:
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 + Bluetooth
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260 + Bluetooth
    • Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260
    • Intel® Wireless-N 7260 + Bluetooth

Fat channel intolerant, Disabled -> 20Mhz, Enabled -> 40Mhz. So if you want to enable 40Mhz channels you have to choose "Enabled"
Sorry, the text in the image is in Dutch. Perhaps it is just a translation error ;).

I've had some trouble getting the correct drivers for wifi and bluetooth, the Dell driver works best for me you can get them here:
    Intel 7260 WiFi Driver
    Intel 7260 Bluetooth Application

Was looking for ways of improving my system's cooling. Did a check here but didn't anything mentioned. Luckily I
stumbled on another E6440 area. There is shows the dGPU model heatsink could mostly fit into a iGPU E6440. The info
    is at:

    14" Dell Latitude E6440 Owner's Lounge

There's plenty of other good stuff there too; i7-quad CPU upgrades, the mSATA slot, retrofitting a expresscard slot or 900P
LCD and how to attach a expresscard eGPU plus more. That area says we have a LVDS LCD rather than a eDP one
    talked about there.

    Maybe useful to E6440 owners?

hmm.. thinking about it, got a chance to buy e6440 with i5-4300M with 900p screen, but can be the WVAN and full mSata connected together at the same time? is there enough room to do that ?

    Thanks for sharing!
I'm not sure, there is not much room. Perhaps it wil fit just fine, I don't have the WAN-card.

Got this laptop 2 days ago (i7-4600M / Intel HD 4600 only / 8 GB RAM / 256 mobility SSD / Win7 /Backlit / HD+ 1600x900). I used to own both E6400 and E6430 and I am finding out that E6440 is my favorite. Built quality, input devices are fine and sturdy. Display is not the best, but I can get used to it. If E6440's update supports Full HD display, I will go for it. E6440 does not and even though Intel HD utility shows eDP connection, it is actually old LVDS and cannot be upgraded to Full HD. (If somebody managed to upgrade it, please, report here... it should not be easy though: latitude e6440 lvds/edp question - Laptop Video Forum - Laptop - Dell Community)

I could not set backlit keyboard time to 5 minutes as I liked it on previous E64x0s (could not find Dell's app to do so for E6440), but I solved it by using E6430's Dell System Manager Application (here under Control Point section: Product Support | Dell US). The keyboard now stays backlit for 5 minutes.

From what I learned online, it is possible to install mSATA and I will later put my mobility SSD drive (mSATA drive) there while adding some large harddrive for data storage in former location.

Speakers on E6440 are very good, same quality as E6430, better than E6400's.

I can also confirm mSATA slot above WWAN slot works, installation is very easy.

My iGPU-only model has some heating issue - the CPU fan is often active, quite often also during idle activity of OS. Therefore I repasted the CPU today. Here's image of original pasting from factory I took today. Can somebody more experienced comment on quality of the pasting? Thanks.

Can Dell's Support do something with the heating issue?
