Any opinions on the hybrid hard drive, which I think is a 5400 rpm Seagate?
    Worth moving to an SSD?

This will depend whether the e6440 uses eDP or LVDS. If it uses the 30 pin eDP, an FHD would be possible. It may even be possible to swap in the AUO FHD AHVA panel used in the T-series Lenovos.

OTOH, if Dell kept the old 40 pin LVDS, then no FHD option is possible. (Unless one of the panel manufacturers makes an FHD IPS/AHVA LVDS model but this is highly unlikely).

Anyone know if the e6440 uses LVDS or eDP?

Found out a way to check if anyone with an e6440 could help out:

"To check if your computer's built-in display uses an embedded DisplayPort (eDP) or LVDS connector type:
From the Windows* desktop press Ctrl+Alt+F12 (My note here, this works if you have the Hotkey sequence enabled in the Intel Graphics and Media Control Center) key combination. If prompted select Advanced Mode application mode. Select Options and Support, Select Information Center, Change the System Information drop down to Built-in Display. Check the Connector Type field."

Mine shows eDP. I have the 1600x900 panel.

Thanks c14rider! This makes the FHD IPS/AHVA screens definitely possible. I hope Dell does indeed offer such an option in the near future. If not, atleast the eDP connection makes modding a possibility.

A couple questions about this notebook.

    1) Any issues with throttling? Heat related throttling seems to be an issue with the larger e6540 model due to the HSF not being able to handle quad cores + dGPU heat output. I'd like to know if this is the case for both the IGP-only model and the radeon dGPU model.

    2) Does this notebook support Intel XTU (for overclocking/undervolting purposes)?

So I got my hands on a e6440 without the radeon gpu. Ran an AIDA64 stress test and temps go up to 90-91C, one throttling epsiode upto 3% over the 8 hr test. It looks like the cooling system is barely adequate for an iGPU-only system. I would imagine the radeon dGPU config would have considerable throttling issues.

XTU does indeed work for this laptop, though only voltage can be adjusted. Currently testing an undervolt setup with AIDA64, temps are holding at 86C which is a modest improvement.

Has anybody here experienced keyboard flex issues on the 6440/6540?

Does anybody experiencing problems with the power-share UBS port on the E6440?
Mine isn`t working (doesn`t charge devices when laptop is switched off).
Of course, I enabled it in the bios.

Anyone have a E6440 that had a E6430? I'm itching to upgrade, although I don't see the FHD screen available yet. Seems like they are really lagging on that option.
