Oh weird... I must be going blind or something, I see that the i7-4810MQ does have that feature.

You can't integrate the 1080p IPS panels into that laptop. The 1600x900 versions have a LVDS interface. Only laptops natively delivered with 1080p have the eDP interface on the motherboard.

Unfortunately nobody has tested, at least yet, whether you can do a 1440p panel on the eDP interface, although I suspect it will work. But your older-revision E6440 with the LVDS is limited to the 1600x900 panel.

Have at it with this tool:

    http://www.panelook.com/modelsearch.php?op=advancedsearch

Appears to be no IPS or VA (ie: non-TN) panels available with LVDS in the 14" form factor:

    http://www.panelook.com/modelsearch...&display_mode_lc_family=IPS&transmissivity=-1

(adjust the TN / IPS / VA setting, and you'll see there's 39 TN panels that would work, but 0 IPS, and 0 VA)

Does the E6440 have any parts of the casing using non-slip soft touch plastics?

The palm-rest surface definitely uses a rubberized material.

Any word from Dell on a BIOS update that resolves the AMT/VPro security vulnerability?

Are you talking about this? If so, looks like it should be available in just a couple more days.

Yup. Thanks for the link. That's what I was looking for, but the first version of that document I was able to find didn't reference the E6440 for some reason.
