Ah - I see! Now I get it. So - one has to use the DVI or HDMI ports in the Dock to feed the monitors & that way the Nvidia is driving them via the docking port on the base of the laptop. Use the VGA and you are on the intel. Got it!

    Thanks for taking the time.

Having dissapointing WIFI reception with the Lid Closed.

On my desk - with screen open - the Intel Wifi 6300 sits pegged at a solid 54mbs

Close the lid and hookup the external monitor, keyboard, etc. and the wifi signal
starts fluctuating all over the place - between almost nothing and about 36mbs.

considering that the latitude line is specifically designed to be a docking system and the "ultimate N 6300" wifi is a 3- antena card and supposedly the best one they offer in the machine... this is dissapointing.

anyone know any tricks to help improive this?

All laptops have antennas in the lid (screen) that are optimised for operation with the screen upright. As soon as you close the lid on any laptop you are operating with sub-optimal antenna orientation for WiFi purposes, as well as having the latop top body sheilding ~50% of the remaining RF field.... not to mention having the antennas sitting right on top of running electronics which will be producing at least some wide band interference.

    Or

Right click Computer -> Properties -> Device Manager -> Network Adapters
Right click the wireless card -> Properties -> Power management tab
Untick "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power"
    Hit OK then try it.

This sound a bit silly but maybe you can try to lay down some aluminium foil between the screen and the keyboard, so there is less interference between high frequency signals such as bluetooth, usb and sata.

Does any one know port replicator (prx02?) from last gen work with e6430? I don't care for usb3 support.
Have an extra laying around which I use with 6320 and really don't want to get the 2nd one.

Yep, I have a last gen hooked up at one location and a new one (usb 3.0) at another location and both work perfectly.

    Thanks.

Are there any details on the memory that comes with e6430? Mine says 4GB (1x4GB) 1600MHz and doesn't mention latency anywhere.

Hi all, having owned a Latitude D620, E6400 and now an XPS 14 ... I am really missing the practicality of my E6400. The XPS looks sleek but the keys don't allow fast, accurate typing and the touchpad does erratic things, clicking when you don't want to click and swiping between web pages when you just want to move the pointer. I'm starting to regret moving from the Latitudes. However, I think the E6430 looks rather big and bulky (like an old 15" Inspiron) not neat and tidy like the E6400. Any thoughts on this? Anyone owned both models? How do they compare? The other model I am considering is a ThinkPad T430, but it looks a bit on the ugly side. Is the E6430 all that bulky? How does the keyboard compare with the E6400? Thanks.

Ordered the CN5HF from Amazon and it would not work. All the keys in the number row would not. work no matter what I tried including reinstalling the keyboard driver.
Of course it's possible the new keyboard i rec'd is defective.
Notice the backlighting is rather lame and does really illuminate the keyboard very well
