Thanks for your input. I guess dell is still short changing their notebooks with horrid panels. I also noticed the 'chicken wire' that you described especially in solid white, but I wrote it off as not being used to the lower pixel density of the screen. If you're noticing it coming from the 1680x1050, it may be that dell is using some kind of ultra low quality panel. Such a shame for an otherwise nice machine.

I hope there's an explanation for the screen (driver or something). I just ordered a Thinkpad T430, but was thinking about cancelling it and getting an E6430 instead. I still have some time to think it over, but not a long time.

I got a chance to look at my dad's E6520 15" with 1600x900 screen and the display was infinitely better. There was a fairly large vertical sweet spot with no washout or inversion, unlike this E6430 which either has the top inverted or the bottom washed out when looking at the best angles I can find. Also, the 15 "panel seems much less washed out. There are actually blacks present on the E6520 rather than a washed out, glowing gray color on the E6430. Even on a larger screen, I really don't see the "chicken wire" as well, so either all E6430 have terrible panels or we got crappy batch of panels. If the replacement panel addressing the dead pixels issue is the same crappy panel, I think I'll be taking advantage of the return policy, sadly.

I have purchased my E6430 about three weeks ago. Everything is fine except the fan which is always spinning. Right after hitting the power button to turn on the laptop it starts to spin. I am not sure if this is strange or not. However, I contacted Dell support service and updated my bios following the instruction they have given me. But the problem is still unsolved. Now they require me to ship the laptop to a repair depot to have it repaired. This would take 7-12 days and I can not live without my laptop that long.

The problem is I am not really sure if always spinning of the fan is a problem for E6430. Do I really need to send the laptop to them? Anyone else have the same problem with fan?

I noticed on the E6420 that the fan would be on most of the time while the AC adapter is plugged in, and would slow down when running on battery. Not sure if that is the case with this one or not.

For my laptop it is running during both cases. It seems to be a problem, doesn't it?

Hey guys, I'm curious about something.

The T430 has an option in the BIOS where you can decide if you want Optimus (Nvidia + Intel graphics), Nvidia by itself, or Intel graphics by itself. Does this same option exist in the E6430? I know with the E6420 the only option you had was to either turn on Optimus or turn it off. I ordered my T430 on 02/01 and it is STILL in production and hasn't shipped yet, so I'm thinking about cancelling it, but the better video options were the reason I went with it.

If you unplug it for at least one minute, it doesn't slow down at all?

Check the power option, you may be on "Max Performance" profile.
