I was a Thinkpad geek for yrs,the E6400 was the 1st time I took a critical look at dell's business laptops, and I agree, they are solid and impressive machines.

Not normal at all. Make sure you uninstall your old drivers and install the latest ones. It may also be your anti-virus that scan on everything too much.

Is anyone having issues with it coming out of Sleep Mode, locking up keyboard and touchpad, and forcing a hard restart? I just received my e6410 today and I can neither load from Sleep or Hibernate. I think I am going to end up reformatting and see if I have any luck, because everything else I've been trying hasn't seemed to help.

Like you guys (JakeWorld and ProfessorShred) I too ordered an E6410 with the WXGA+ screen (or so I thought...thats what it said in the unit description/spec page and both Order Acknowledgement + Confirmation emails). In my final "parts list" of my unit that I was sent it also shows the:

    56WF8 MOD,LCD,14.1WX,LED,EDP,AG,LGP

and yes upon receiving my unit 2 days ago I too got the 1280x800 res WXGA lower-end screen. I've been on the phone + emailing Dell Customer Care and so far all they seem to be able to do is process a full refund and tell me to reorder again for the "right parts". I explained to them that I got a great deal on mine and would not be able to get the same price again. He said there's nothing more he could do.

This is garbage and unacceptable but it seems like nothing else can be done at this point. For what its worth the WXGA screen is pretty sharp as compared to other WXGA screens I've used in past Latitudes, and my vision is quite poor anyways so perphaps the WXGA would suit me better after-all. Still doesn't console the fact that we were pretty much misled and "bait and switched".

I got a great deal on this E6410 though with Core i5-540 2.53GHz + nVidia Quadro NVS 3100m graphics so I may just keep it anyways and try to get Dell to compensate me somehow (a free battery or something).

On another note anyone try gaming on their E6410? Mine came pre-installed with Windows XP (I was planning to fresh install to Win7 anyways) so I just messed around with the XP install downloading random programs to try and I installed Steam with Team Fortress 2. It plays alright on medium-high settings @ 1280x800 (hovers around 25-40 fps) but not 100% buttery smooth so I'll have to try dialing down the settings to low-med. I wonder how Starcraft 2 would play on this E6410 with the nVidia Quadro 3100m. Anyone try it?

I'm still trying to decide between this E6410 + an E4300/E4310 (which I have coming in next week). The only difference to me really is the nVidia Quadro NVS 3100m graphics on the E6410 at the expense of almost 1.5lbs of weight as compared to the E4300/E4310. If the 3100m can't really handle Starcraft2 and similar games well enough I'll probably just stick with an E4300/E4310 and build myself a gaming desktop. It'd be nice to just stick with 1 PC (E6410) if it could handle the graphics. LOL sorry for the rant/tangent.

Just my 2 cents on people receiving the lower end screens. Before I purchased the e6410 I spent an hour arguing with Dell telling them their inventories of e6410 and e6510 laptop screens were wrong. I noticed ALL the e6510s had the lowest the screen resolution listed, while all the e6410s had the highest screen resolution listed. After a long fruitless battle over the phone I contacted the Dell Outlet Twitter account. They ended up fixing it like 3 days ago.

@Moxa - does this mean the current inventory has the correct screen resolutions ?

For the E6410 it appears it's been corrected, as they are now mainly WXGA screens with some WXGA+ scattered throughout, which is to be expected.

That's good that you invested the time to inform them of the sketchy scenario. You're right in that everything was fixed about 3 days ago, which I think partly coincides with their official recognition of the E6410/E6510 on their main Outlet page. I figure they must have gotten enough emails and queries concerning the displays that they took the time to resolve the issue.

When I made my return, the shipping label they provided me with was good for 42 pounds, which no matter how you slice it, means they grossly overpaid for return shipping. I would imagine after a number of returns, which in this forum alone amounts to 4 or 5 users, that they might take notice, and would prefer not to have to continually pay for their mistake.

While they couldn't offer a replacement that matched the original deal, I did take advantage of the 15% off all Business Notebooks in the Outlet, which bought me a similarly spec'ed E6410, except with an i5-540m and an additional Bluetooth module, at $80 savings. At least this time I was able to confirm that the WXGA+ display is included, as the correct part is in the Order Status at this time.

For anyone that encountered the display misrepresentation:
Note that the Outlet coupon is good until noon today. I was able to get a comparable notebook to my original order (fully upgraded sans DVD-RW and Bluetooth) for a very good price, so if you have made a return, you should strongly consider taking up on this deal if any decent stock is still available.

Just recieved my E6410 from outlet. I bought it on Tuesday. It has the nvidia nvs 3100m and the WXGA+ screen as promised.

In the order status you can check for the following line for discrete video

    TMN99 MOD,ASSY,BASE,NBK,DSV,TPM,EXCR

I found that DSV means that the laptop has the discreted video.
