No, I don't really do anything that intensive graphically apart from some games. Would the Intel 3000 HD be as good for gaming as the NVS 3100m if battery life wasnt as much of a concern?

What kind of games? If you want to do anything more than boardgames or chess, you'll want discrete graphics.

Well I enjoy the older games such C&C Generals, CS Source, Battlefield 2, Dawn of War etc. I used to play these games around 6/7 years ago on my single core P4 with my Nvidia 6800GT Ultra 256MB. Mainly all on full spec and no problems. Surely the Nvidia being double the memory and running with a i5 processor, in theory it should be able to handle it quite easily?

I wouldn't also mind trying games such as World in conflict or Dawn of War 2, which I definitely couldn't run on my old PC, but hoping it may run on this set up even if I turn it down a notch. Are these sort of games too much or can #i get away with it?

Would the Nvidia based board be classed as a discrete graphics option?

I think you should be fine with older games, but you'll definately need the discrete graphics (NVIDIA).

Hi, I have the E6400 and need sth new :) I read that the Intel IGP in the i-5 can't be disabled, even if you choose the nvidia option. So it drains power all the time without doing anything. Is that true? I got a nice offer for a E6410 with the nvidia option, but I don't need the power and don't want to suffer from noticeably higher energy drain and heat. Did some1 compare the 2 models in terms of heat and power consumption?

Furthermore I love the Samsung wxga+ panel in my E6400, is it possible to swap it in the E6410?

I doubt power consumption is going to be noticeably different. Both laptops have similar battery life.

You won't be able to swap the panels, as the E6410 uses eDP rather than LVDS. For the E6410, you'll want to get the AUO panel. I've never seen any good Samsung panels, they usually have strong tints that throws off color gamut.

yes, it had blue tint, but I managed to reduce it with software calibration. I just love the brightness and viewing angles. It's the best TN-panel I ever had in a notebook.

I wan't to buy a used E6410 and have some questions...

    1) Is it possible to disable the NVS3100 GPU in the bios and use instead the Intel HD GMA for graphics output?
    2) And are the Screens between E6400 and E6410 changable? It is possible to swap a E6400 Screen into a E6410 (and otherwise)?

Thanks, and sorry i will read this thread as soon i have a bit more time.

    Both are not possible.

Embedded DisplayPort connectors are used in the E6410. Why would you want to swap screens with an E6400?

    Thanks

Ok, that means the Intel GMA GPU is complete useless? Hmm very bad, I thought the missing optimus is not a problem. I wanted to use this notebook with an eGPU (with a nvidia GPU for CUDA and some gaming) Adapter. I think this will cause some problems by using two nVidia cards.

    I found a Dell E6410 with cracked screen (WXGA+), and my brother owns a E6400 with WXGA+.
I guess if I buy this E6410, I need to buy the specific (broken manufacture) screen or it does it not matter which I choose?
