Hi guys, new here and from what I've read so far you guys seem to know your stuff so hoping someone can guide me a little with my problem.

I have just got a E6410, Intel core i5-520m 2.4GHz running Windows 7. I have only 2GB RAM at the mo but have several sticks of those and will upgrade eventually. Also have a 250gb HDD. Iv also got the normal Intel 3000HD version.

So the main problem I'm having is that my E6410 seems to work fine until I plug in the AC adapter and then it will randomly just freeze. I managed to install the entire Windows 7 CD via the battery life but as soon as I plug in the charger it will randomly crash. It will even crash mid installation of Windows 7 if I plug it in half way trough. I believe its hardware related as I have been messing around with it for ages.

    So far iv tried:
plugged in without the battery = still crashes
plugged in with battery = still crashes
only battery = hasn't crashed yet

Iv tried different memory sticks, chargers, changing various bios power management features, windows 7, windows XP updated bios. Only to no avail.

If it was something like RAM or the HDD wouldn't it crash when it was just battery alone?

I'm starting to believe its a motherboard issue and am quite disappointed if it is. Can anyone here give me some advice or maybe something I haven't thought of yet?

any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Where did you get the laptop from, and does it have any warranty? If so, I would get the motherboard replaced.

As long as it has the right graphics option (integrated or discrete), you don't have to worry about part numbers.

This thread is so long and what I am looking for has probably already been covered.

    Here goes.

I did a bit of reading and it seems some people have had compatibility problems with some SSD drives. I am wanting to get increased reliability. I don't think I need a very large drive, I currently show 113 GB free of 146 GB. I have a lot of data but it is not in the forum of storage heavy things such as images. I don't know much about backup software but I think I would like to run a second hard drive and have automated backups internally.

What I would like to know is what SSD drive should I get for this computer. I want to avoid compatibility problems and reliability is more important to me than speed.

Samsung PM810 or PM830 will work fine as it's the OEM drive.

The pricing is strange on these. I am seeing 64bg units more expensive than larger ones.

It looks like these are pricey drives.

You should be able to find a 256GB drive for around $200, which is a pretty good deal.

Is there anything else that will not have compatibility problems. I am in a town where I am not going to find this drive on the shelf and don't have time to have one shipped.

Most of my stuff is data so I am never going to have large storage needs.

It's the only drive that is guaranteed not to have compatibility problems, so the conservative answer would be no. It's difficult to guarantee anything for other drives.
