I noticed the heatsink on my E6410 does not lay flat on the GPU. When it is flat on the CPU, the heatsink is not touching the GPU. My fix was to wedge a tooth pick into the far end near where the heat exits out of the vent. This helps to improve the contact between the heatsink and GPU. It's a poor design issue.

The other design problem is that when this laptop is on a dock with multiple monitors, the GPU is designed to go into 3D mode so the voltage and GPU MHz both go up to their maximum 3D setting even when you are just using the internet. Makes for a nice desk warmer in the winter but also leads to instability, especially when combined with the above issue.

You absolutely do not need to reinstall windows to enable AHCI.
Follow these instructions: Switch to AHCI in Windows 7 (after install) | Windows 7 Themes

During office work, mine is about 120F for CPU and 135F for GPU, with the fan off for most of the time. I have replaced the thermal grease with Arctic Silver 5.

what kind of scratch do you have?

    1) on surface scratch?, try rubbing alcohol or soap

    2) deep scratch that cuts into the actual lid?, oh well just gotta live with it.

Our matte screen isn't really all that matte huh? it's like semi matte/glossy, or atleast my wxga+ is.

Unfortunately they're deep scratches. It's from placing the laptop directly into a bag instead of getting a case from it. I don't really mind that much, as I'm going to use this laptop for a long, long time and well, they're battle scars. It's a mark of ownership.

I *think* it would be possible to replace the screen cover, but probably a lot of work so I wouldn't bother unless it was really bad.

There's also the option of putting a vinyl sticker on it, eBay is loaded with them (and most look horrible, IMO).

I've got an Aperture Science logo on mine (soon to be replaced with a Starfleet emblem).

I don't know, mine is about as matte as a typical desktop monitor, it can still catch bright lights but it's certainly nowhere near the mirror shine of the typical laptop screen.

I've given up on the touchpad. I guess its just crap basically. But i've got a couple of questions. The pdf that tells in which order to install drivers you are talking about, where can i find that?

And, where can i find a assembly/disassemble guide for the E6410? I dont want to open it up and get stuck half way. I've tried to google but maybe i use the wrong word or something cause i cant seem to find what i'm looking for.

B.t.w. do i need any special tools or just a small standard screwdriver?
