    Reporting back...

after dell came and switch out the heatsink all heat issues are gone, im able to play light gaming with out it shut down on me. casual office work temps stays around 50 Celcius for both GPU/CPU. the themal paste on the old sink had holes everywhere :(

at the same time they also replace a few chassi pieces.

ok now i gotta reinstall windows. current im on WIN 7 Service Pack 1....I hear that SP1 isn't that great and that were off better w/o it.

is this true? any comments on this?

    thanks

Yay, i followed that instruction on the link you suggested, and it worked! my drive proformance number from windows index went from 6.9 to 7.5. YE!

and the greaatest thing about this, is it eliminates the safely remove drive icon for the disc rom. it really annoyed me, with having an extra icon on the task bar.

Yea, a complete reinstall of Win7 just to enable AHCI would have been a real waste of time. As I recall, I had a similar increase when I enabled AHCI.

Was thinking about taking the plunge to SSD on my E6410 to run as primary and slave out my WDC 500gb for data, but I've heard so many bad things about some of the SSD drives not working with the E6410.

Anyone had one running for a period of months that can comment on the quality of a particular model or make?

I have ran the Samsung PM800 that came with my E6410 as well as my current Intel X25-M 80GB SSD.

I have seen bad things happen with sand force controllers were drives hiccup and lose all their data.

Which would you recommend? What do I need to buy to get that going? Do the drives come with controllers?

ac adapter plug and the port on the computer seem kinda loose, it kinda of wiggle around *side to side or top to bottom* with a little bit of play.

    this is normal for e6410?

As long as power isn't disconnected when you wiggle the cable, it's fine. Some play means it is less susceptible to damage, and with the E-series, the jack is connected by a cable so it won't be as solid as a soldered jack on the motherboard.

Ah hah! So that's why my jack has a surprising amount of play. :p
