The version you need is 8.1200.101.106 (ALPS_MULTI-TOUCH-TOUCHPAD_V26GF_A02_SETUP_ZPE.exe), which will bring back the "Scroll & Zoom" tab.

Have you tried two-finger scrolling? It seems to work fairly well on these systems, even though the touchpad is kind of small.

Or it doesn't, it seems I posted that too early. In fact I can find these features in the app, but whenever I change anything, click "Save" and leave the app, setting changes remain undone and even after 2 reboots touchpad doesn't work properly. Moreover, I cannot even set the Gestures toggle into "on".

EDIT: Maybe there's a problem with the rights to the file, where the settings are stored?

 

How did you downgrade the driver? You may need to do some cleanup work, but the fact that you upgraded the OS could complicate things (clean install is the best way).

Try this:

Go to Device Manager (run devmgmt.msc), expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click Dell Touchpad, select Uninstall, then check the box to delete the drivers. Afterwards, check Programs and Features to see if Dell Touchpad is still there. If so, uninstall it. Then, reboot.

Run the A02 EXE and let it extract to C:\Dell\..., but do not install it from the GUI. Open Device Manager again, expand Mice and other pointing devices, right-click the device (it will have a generic name now), and select Update Driver Software. Click Browse my computer for driver software, and select the path to the extracted files (C:\Dell\...). After it installs, reboot.

BTW, do you have UAC enabled? If so, disable it.

 

Inb4 I used to just uninstall from the control panel and install from GUI.
Now, I've just done twice exactly what you said but still with no effect.

The OS has been installed clean, not as an upgrade (I called it like that because of the release date - the 8.1 is newer so it's an upgrade to the 7).
UAC is disabled all the time.

 

It seems to work fine on my E6220, but now that I think about it, I remember that A02 causes a lot of security warnings when the EXEs start. Did you get those? I just clicked my way through them.

 

Not even once. The app just cannot apply any changes, all the rest is OK. There hasn't been a single error or such.
Now, when I place more than 1 finger on the touchpad, mouse cursor stands still. I can't do a single gesture or anything.

 

I'm not sure if it's an E6220 vs. E6230 difference, but it seems like some kind of software issue. If the feature is important enough, I would take an image of C:, reinstall Windows, and try the driver again. If it doesn't work, you can just restore the image.

Or, it might be a good time to try using two-finger scrolling...

 

The feature is very important but it seems I'd have to do without it. I'm not going to install windoze again (at least not soon; if ever, I'd downgrade - again - to W7) neither I'd ever get used to two-finger scrolling. God bless Page Up & Page Down.
