What do you guys think about the 6230 fan? Is yours a bit rattly too? Mine clatters at all speeds.

Fan is new and I oiled it just to make sure.

Going to receive my new e6230 shortly. It'll be a company machine, but with my previous one (e6410) I replaced the CD-ROM with a SSD that could be booted independently. I had ubuntu on that for personal use (coding for websites in my spare time).

Anyone know if I can boot an OS (linux based) on e6230 from external eSATA, USB3.0 drive, SD or something else, with the built in SSD still present and not affected? I like having a completely separate machine (with admin rights...) with me on business trips.

For those contemplating the switch to an IPS screen (the famous LP125WH2-SLB1), here is a quick tutorial with pictures (in German, but google translate usually does a good job of Germanic languages):

[E6230] 12,5" Displaywechsel von TN auf IPS - Dell Latitude Serie - www.xps-forum.de - DELL FORUM

Its advantage over the traditional E6220 tutorial on the NBR forum (http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...92-latitude-e6220-ips-screen-replacement.html) is that it dispenses with the dremeling. All one has to do is break two small plastic pieces on the display bezel.

It turns out that on the E6230 the procedure works well, with the bezel reasonably pressing on the screen all around it. And while I had the better, brighter original Dell display (the LP125WH2-TLFA), the IPS is a vast improvement.

Just switched from bios A10 to A11, which seems to bring many fixes, including a new Management Engine fw. Unfortunately, while the fan is still off most of the time, it comes to life somewhat more frequently. I personally switched back for this reason only, but otherwise the new bios seem fine.

LATE EDIT: done some more testing; the difference in fan behavior, if any, is minimal

i have a little problem with my e6230, mine has arrived without bt card, i bought one from ebay, it's ok inside bios but under any windows it's not seen. I have disabled from bios any kind of management of cards but still nothing. The card(board) has been tested on another dell laptop and it's working ok. Any advice?

Check if Bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS, or if the wireless switch controls both Bluetooth and WLAN.

I've got an urgent need to equip my E6230 with Bluetooth module. There's Win7 onboard and no way I'm upgrading it to Win8. I got it without BT module nor Intel's 7260 is able to work here properly (as the forum guys say), so I decided to ask:

Which way should I upgrade it to have a properly working Bluetooth with A2DP? I'm gonna stream music from WMP, AIMP (internet radioes), Firefox (youtube) and maybe a game or two to my SE MW600 headset via A2DP. I thought about buying Dell's 380 BT4 module, but it's pricey. If it's the only way to enable audio streaming, I'm still gonna buy it though. Any other (preferably, cheaper) tested&working solutions for me? Or - do even this 380 stream audio via A2DP properly?

    Thanks for any support.

How about an Intel 6235 or (but better not) 2230?

Thanks for the reply. But does this work, anyone tested it? I mean 6235 in E6230.

I have the 7260ac card in my 6230 with Windows 7 and the bluetooth works great (weirdly, I had to shut it down a second time after installing it for it to work).
