It could be a charger or motherboard issue... have you tried using another, known-good charger?

Since the e4310 uses embedded DisplayPort for the LCD panel, does anyone know if the motherboard and cable support 2 lane eDP?

eDP is finally starting to become mainstream now so there are lots of nice panels available that would be a sweet upgrade.
A 1920x1080 13.3" panel requires 2 lane eDP. The specs on the panels of the e4310 show they are 1 lane.

    Hi everyone,

I recently bought one of the off-lease e4310 refurbs (with Win7 32 Pro) and love it. Want to upgrade the smallish 160gb HD to SSD or possibly 1-2-TB hybrid HD. I have looked everywhere and found no solution to my problem. This will probably be end up being my WMC machine for a while.

Original AO4 Bios is still in play. We're up to AO14 now. If I try to flash (w/ built-in Windows utility) anything above AO7, an error code tells me I have to flash to AO7 first. If I try to flash AO5, 6 or 7 I see a DOS box flash on screen for a frac second and then nothing happens.

Can anyone provide any guidance here? And do I need to flash the BIOS to make sure I'm updated and especially that new HD or SSD will perform properly?

    Thanks!

    A

    Hi Robin,

I see you know something about BIOS updates. Would you be so kind as to respond to my inquiry that I just posted?

    Thanks,

    A

Not sure, in the past, there has been. Try the file on the link I provided and run it as administrator.

I created a USB boot disk and ran the files from DOS. Worked fine.

If I may ask another question - I can't seem to find out whether a newer replacement hard drive (SATA III, II) will connect directly. Do I have SATA III? (probably not) II, I or? I thought I would be able to find some kind of replacement guide.

The laptop has SATA II, but newer drives are backwards compatible (it will just run at SATA II speeds). I would get a SATA III SSD in case you want to move it to a newer laptop at some point.
