yup, updated all the drivers and BIOS
two finger scrolling works a little better, but still doesn't work enough to drive me crazy. I decided to just go back to the old days of using the scroll zone, which works just fine.

thanks, good to know that I don't have to worry about the screen dying anytime soon. Yeah, I've been running on 1-2 notches above the minimum and noticed the flickering went away. I THINK I'm FINALLY satisfied enough to end my search for the "perfect laptop." Obviously, the E4310 isn't perfect, but it does the best job of adequately satisfying all my needs.

Glad you finally settled on a unit. This model will get more interesting when Dell upgrades it to Sandy Bridge next year.

Just an update on the weirdness I was seeing with 2 monitors.

I updated to the newest Intel HD Display drivers from the Intel site and now both 24" monitors display 1920x1200 as an Extended Desktop with no issues. Monitor 1 is a U2410 via displayport and Monitor 2 is currently a 2407WFP via DVI-D. Connections are made through an e-port plus dock.

One more update on the Intel HD Video Drivers - the lowest brightness setting turns my display off.

I really like the E4310 laptop coming from an E4300 but it seems to run a bit warmer when using as a laptop. Thinking I am going to roll back to my 4300 as its better for my use as I only surf the internet and use office occasionally.

    Hi lakersgo,

Have you got any answer with your webcam installing? I'm in the same situation and wondering if I could install a built-in webcam into my E4310. Thanks!

I hoping to get a refurb e4310 i5 540, 4 gb, 128 ssd, for 890 dollars (okay price?) but i was wondering what is the difference between
    1) 13.3 inch WXGA Anti-Glare Laptop Screen
    Versus
    2) 13.3 inch WXGA(1366x768) Anti-Glare LED w/ Microphone, WWAN Ready, Slate Silver
The e4310 comes with the 1) option. Shouldn't 1) still be LED?

Yes (1) should still be LED. There is only one display option. (2) includes a microphone and WWAN antenna.

I contacted the sales rep. and they said that the 1) option is LCD, not LED :(
Does anyone think there would be a big difference between the LCD and LED?

Oh dear! Another sales rep who doesn't understand the technical details. They are correct in that the display is LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) as are all(?) current notebook displays. The LED is the form of the backlighting (the alternative being a CCFL (Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp) which is less efficient and less reliable. There are no display panel configuration options for the E4310 but Dell sources the displays from several manufacturers.

There is a LED display technology known as OLED (see Wikipedia) which is used in smartphones but I don't think it has yet appears on notebooks.
