    1. Did you install the ZTE security driver? If not, give it a try.

    2. Fn + cursor right should step the keyboard backlight though three operating modes: Off, on and controlled by the ambient light sensor. Dell ControlPoint system manager allow you to adjust the backlight brightness.

    woooooot
Dell FINALLY shipped my laptop! It only took several phone calls and 8 days to ship an outlet unit  At least they're shipping it overnight, so it'll only be delayed a couple of days.
I was looking for a backup unit, in case they were to tell me my unit doesn't exist... if anyone is interested, there is a E4310 unit with a 256gb SSD for $929. If an outlet coupon code pops up anytime soon, that would be an even hotter deal.

BTW, the unknown device was the freefall sensor.

I do like the laptop & I am not having buyers remorse (my wife really wants it) but going from the M1210 to the E4310 with the same SSD wasnt the largest jump in speed boost.

However, with two young children in my house (10 months, 3.5 years), I am glad to have a laptop that has 3 years of complete care on it.

Its fast just not the jump that going from my C2D M1210 with regular SATA to SSD was. Again, its mostly a web / email machine.

Its nice to have the larger screen too. Overall, I like it but I was hoping for a bigger speed boost.

It came today. It just barely fits with the 6-cell, nice and snug! Looks slick and seems to offer plenty of protection.

    A steal at $9.99!

Glad you liked it! Fitting depends on what you consider though, the same case is fitting for my E6400 with a 9-cell. The magnetic closure is pretty flexible with positions.

Noob here. I just recieved my e4310 as well and was surprised to see that the 6cell is significantly larger and sticks out :(. If I would have known ahead of time I would have probably ordered the 3cell. Is this the case with all the 6cell batts for this model? Any chance dell would exchange it?

The battery sticking out of the back makes a useful grip if you need to carry the computer when it is open. However, before you think if trying to get the 3 cell battery, check the battery time with the 6 cell and then decide whether half of that time will be OK for your needs.

    Got my E4310 today.
Satisfied with the portability, aesthetics, 5-6 hrs battery, best screen quality compared to the previous dozen laptops I've owned, SSD has latest firmware/supports TRIM, and it came with extras (backlit keyboard, webcam, Latitude ON, restore/driver discs)

Build quality and rigidity is definitely not in the same league as an HP Elitebook, but it is definitely a step above consumer notebooks.

Few things that are nagging me:
    - Initially, mousepad and point stick had erratic movements. Uninstalled Dell's control center and voila, mouse and point movement is smooth. However, multi gestures and 2 finger scrolling don't work 90% of the time. Both are enabled.

    - When screen is on lowest brightness, it sort of flickers like it's trying to dim even more, when I switch between programs (firefox to word, or even when I'm scrolling in firefox)

    - Runs a bit warm near the vent (duh) and bottom left side.

And finally, dumb question... but WWAN ready doesn't necessarily mean that E4310 will come with a WWAN card right? I sort of assumed it did, since the other units didn't mention this in their description. If not all E4310 are WWAN ready, what occupies that space?

Have you installed the latest version of the BIOS and drivers? Dell don't normally do this before sending out hardware from the Outlet. Enter your service tag into the Dell support site and the latest versions of the relevant drivers should be automatically listed.

I've seen LED backlit screens give a hint of flicker on lowest brightness. This is because the brightness is controlled by switching the LEDs on and off. When the off period becomes too long it becomes noticeable to some people under some conditions. Try increasing the brightness by one step.

Correct: You don't get the card but the slot is waiting for it and the antenna should be pre-installed.
