What brightness setting are you using? Also try fine tuning the contrast setting in the GPU properties.

Got ya. I think the warranty and probably the fan are the two biggest advantages of the E4300. Z tends to make a soft but audible noise. I think the different CPU in E4300 will run cooler.

I wish i could but the nvidia driver program does only have settings for 3d rendering and color/gamma during video playback.... the driver seems incomplete... still its the same driver as the one on the dell site.

I have the exact same issue so I'm very interested in your progress, and me neither cant find where to change the contrast (or gamma) in the Nvidia control panel. I have mentioned all this to my Dell contact but he has not come up with an answer yet. (I also have a samsung display.)

This is very unfortunate on an otherwise very nice laptop.

Just for the record, I returned my E6400 and got a Z520 instead (for about the same price).

Screen and keyboard are MUCH better than the Dell's. The warranty/support however, is another story:)

Have you tried regular geforce drivers instead of the quadro ones? They allow me to change everything related to the screen on my E6400. You can definitely get a lot better picture with a bit of trial and error.

Thanks for answering, it was something like this I was hoping for. Please let me know which drivers that worked for you. I suppose you just cant install original drivers directly so I was looking at the laptop2go drivers, but they didnt seem to be for the 160m card.

Just take the latest drivers that fit with your OS, download the modified .inf file and install the driver. Almost all the geforce cards use exactly the same driver and it can also be installed on Quadros. I guess that installing geforce drivers onto a quadro card will disable its "quadro features" and make it more suitable for gaming.

Also there should be more information on the site and forums.

edit: 180.xx doesn't seem to work for me but 179.13 is fine.

I dont mean to keep repeating this with no real proof but lv2g drivers dropped 3Dmark06 scores by 300-400 points for my FX770M. Would be great if someone could return FPS benchmarks with lv2g drivers, might have higher FPS than Dells stock drivers, who knows.

In the M2400 thread, I tested Dell drivers versus lv2g drivers and found that it dropped mine 200-300. I'm going to be switch from Vista 64 to Vista 32 in a month or so, so I'll be able to try more custom drivers and see what works.
