I actually just swapped my Samsung SEC5443 for an LG panel for this very reason. You are correct, the LG does have a slight yellowish hue and the Samsung tends to favor the blue. In terms of color correctness, however, the LG does a MUCH better job of rendering colors correctly. The colors on the Samsung were slightly off. It made yellows appear more greenish. This tended to give people's faces a slightly greenish tone to their skin. The LG does not suffer from this. Also blues on the Samsung look OVERLY blue while the blues on the LG seem about right. Didn't really notice a problem with horizontal lines at wider viewing angles on either panel, however, my 44 year old eyes may be failing me.

Does anyone happen to know what panel is used in the 1280 x 800 LED variant?

Checking the hardware ID gives me 'model number' LGD0ABC. Using EVEREST doesn't give me any information either, and the manufacturer is stated as G022H 141WX5. A search on Google with the term G022H returns some information that its a LED LCD panel for the E6400 only. Hmm...

I'm experiencing some backlight flicker (about 1 second) every time I change the content I'm displaying on the screen (e.g. minimise the NBR browser window to display desktop, screen flickers shortly. restore NBR browser window, screen flickers shortly.) Apparently it happens only when I'm on the battery at just about any brightness level except the extreme ends, don't seem to be able to notice it when running on AC though.

The LG in the panel number suggests it is LG, possibly in association with someone else.

    Two thoughts on the flicker:

    1. Check if the Dell advanced power management is changing the refresh rate to 40Hz.

    2. If on minimum brightness, try one or two steps higher.

I have also noticed occasional backlight flickering on my WXGA+ panel.

    1) Advanced power management? Is it the Extended Battery Life setting in the Dell Control Point? I have that disabled though.

    2) Seems like it (the flickering) is not that noticeable at high brightness levels.

The brief flickering is as though the screen is 'attempting to adjust brightness level' based on what content is displayed on it. But never mind, I'm getting used to it. :D Was just a little worried at the beginning.

You that have replaced your screens, what was replaced? The complete cover or just the panel inside?

So is the CCFL SEC WXGA screen any better than the SEC LED screen? I have the former and am considering whether to exchange it for another E6400 or possibly an E4300. My eyes had problems with the unzoomable text (menus, etc) on a Lenovo T61 WXGA+ 15.4 screen.

    Thanks

When I saw this thread I was wondering about it because I've always thought the screen on my new E6500 was really great. I checked the hardware manager and found that I have the AUO display. (My E6500 came from the outlet right before Christmas.)

    Dell offer two WXGA options:

I would recommend one with the LED backlight since it is brighter and/or more power efficient (and no inverter to break). However, I can't find any info about that Electronic Privacy display. This could mean it has very poor viewing angles which they have decided to market as a strength.

I think that is another source. Does that display have CCFL or LED backlight?

The Privacy display shouldn't have any worse viewing angles. It just has a option in the controlpoint that will somehow make the display show something else when viewed from anywhere else than perfect viewing angle.
Dell also has the specifications of the screens available on it's website.

Thanks. The European Dell site isn't up-to-date with that information.
