on the dell e6400 if comparing the wgxa+ 1440x900 vs. the wxga 1280x800, does the wxga + produce much noticeably smaller fonts versus the wxga? although you can adjust the fonts and dpi settings in the display on windows, my experience shows the default settings are always the most clear. my concern is that while upgrading to the wxga+ is supposed to be higher resolution/supposed better clarity/more screen real estate, would i have to have smaller text/fonts and is it NOTICEABLY smaller font/text size versus the WXGA without the + 1440x900 upgrade? I spend a lot of hours a day staring at my screen typing up stuff, and I'm afraid that getting the higher resolution + screen will cause me to squint when browsing firefox or typing up documents... Please advise all. thanks!

Fonts are smaller and the difference is just about noticeable. Fonts in WXGA+ is approximately 89% of the height of WXGA. This is approximately the same as the difference between 10 point and 9 point fonts.

There is no problem when working with documents. Just set Word's zoom to 111% (or such other value as you fancy), while in Firefox you can set a minimum font size. I use 10 point.

You can always zoom in on each page where needed anyway, Firefox should save the zoom level you were at per page. I always set Word to zoom to page fit anyway no matter what resolution I'm at (even at 1920x1080) :p.

Some things don't give you the option to zoom, at least for XP. For example, start menus, dialog boxes, other OS stuff, etc. Is Vista any better?

I have LG 1440x900 LED , About font size ... it is a bit small. Positive part in it is that you really don't see pixels. Picture is much sharper. I wear glasses and I can work on it (as I though this will be main issue). I wasn't Vista fan (well to be honest I was furious about Vista issues..) but now I am happy about usability of Vista when used with higher-resolution screens. Still I am using zoom'ing in Word/office apps./FireFox etc..

Anyone got a Dell part number for the E6400/M2400 WXGA screen with privacy filter and the WXGA+ LED screen? I'm thinking about swapping mine out as I'm not really happy with the WXGA viewing angle.

I got the WXGA+ screen listed as AUO4047. At first I was worried about font size but increading DPI to 120 helped somewhat. Will this feature go away if I convert back to XP?

The unexpected part is that the screen is glossy! I can see my ceiling light reflected on the screen. On an E4300, the light is a bright blur, but on the WXGA+ E6400, I can clearly see the frame of the light fixture reflected on a darkened screen. Did they put in the wrong screen?

I had an E6400 with the WXGA+ LED LG screen and wasn't very happy with it. There was a very noticeable flicker at the lowest brightness setting and the screen looked a bit washed out. Kinda surprising because LG generally makes high quality displays.

I'm waiting for a True-Life screen to come to the Latitude line. Either that or I'll be getting a Precision M4400 when Dell gets around to updating to DDR3 memory.
