Dell Precision M6700 Owners Thread

The 77 mm Samsung 830 SSD comes with a plastic fitting so that it will fit both ultrabooks designed for the 77 mm size as well as the more regular size for notebooks (9.5 mm or whatever) with the Samsung 830 SSD inside the plastic fitting that Samsung provides with the SSD. To be sure, I believe that the 256 SATA3 SSDs currently in production for M6700s are 77 mm (probably Samsung-Dell partnership identical version of the 830). So I do not think you need any dimensions or spacers (besides the plastic fitting/spacer that I believe Samsung includes with their 77 mm SSDs). The Samsung 830 is excellent from what I have read and is my first choice. I think you should be all set - with the basic parts and instructions that ship with the Samsung 830 77 mm SSD. I asked because there is a cheaper version of the samsung 830, the basic version, sold without any accessories...
Also the extractable drive bay has the same dimensions?
Even though I think I'll install the main ssd in the fixed bay

Hello all. I just received my M6700 today and was wondering about international travel (going to the UK). Has anyone experienced wattage conversion problems with their M6600 or M6700? What travel adapter did you use?

You shouldn't need to use a converter. Just get a new cord that connects the "brick" of your power adapter to the outlet in the wall (it's a standard PC power cable), or a simple adapter that will allow this connection. The power adapter supports both 110V/60Hz and 220V/50Hz.

 

Thanks for the quick reply. I was also wondering if I could use a 130W power adapter as a spare if I had to? I was browsing the M6600 thread and someone mentioned doing this....albeit with decreased performance.

 

Yes, a 130W should power the machine. (I don't know if anyone has tried it on the M6700 yet so you might want to try it first. I don't have one to test with.) The machine will probably complain when you power it on, and it will run at a reduced speed, but it should work.
