A few weeks ago, I finally got tired of waiting for the Dell M6700 MTouch, so I bought a less than 2 month old M6700 on Ebay. The specs are: i7-3720QM cpu, 32GB 1600 ram, Nvidia Quadro K5000M, 512 GB ssd & 750GB 7200rpm hd, 8xDVD writer, 1920x1080 non-IPS screen w/ webcam, Win7Pro, 6300N wireless, bluetooth, & fips fingerprint reader. It also came w/ the dock plus, with the multiple display ports & multiple usb3 ports, & 3yr complete care.warranty. The price was $2,080, including shipping.
So far everything is great, except I don't have the video drivers worked out. The screen was washed out. I went to nvidia & downloaded the driver software, but then it asked if I wanted standard, with the drivers only, using the current settings, or advanced, where I could load the program clean, I chose standard. The screen looks much better, but my score is still way low at 7.6 cpu, 7.7 ram, 7.5 graphics, 7.9 hd.
    >> Question: Should I go back to Nvidia again & have it load the entire program for a fresh install, or what? The graphics should be 7.9, I think..
Thanks very much, Mike Reilly, Architect

Bokeh, I was reading your review and thread here on the M6700, its good stuff. Could I ask you one question?. Im thinking about getting an m6700, I produce music and this will (maybe) be my new workstation. Could i ask you how it sounds when you have headphones plugged into the audio jack. Is there a good headphone amplifier with plenty of volume, and is the sound quality high. Around page 20 I think it was in the thread, you said you would try some Sennheisers with the M6700, I wonder did you get around to that. Sorry about all those questions from a newbie here. I appreciate any reply. Thank you.

I have the K5000M and the WEI graphics score is only 7.7. I don't recall hearing anyone say they got 7.9 on this card. Don't get too hung up over the WEI scores.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is there anything I can do to get the WEI graphics score up to 7.7, from my current 7.5?

Also, the screen is much better with the new drivers, but not as good as I hoped. It can apparently be set both in "Intel Graphics Properties" and in "Nvidia Control Panel". I've currently got it set to the defaults. I don't have a color calibration tool. Could you post your settings, if different from the defaults? I could try them.

    Thanks, Mike

Personally I've never been sure just how WI works or is calculated. Only that its suppose to act as an indicator or how well your machine will performs give specified programs.

Anyway, I got a .1 raise in graphic score on my HDX when I went from the OEM 4GB of RAM to the max of 8. I have no idea if that would help you, especially if you're already at your limit.

Not that it matters, since WEI is garbage anyway lol, but I was able to get 7.9 WEI using a 2GB 680M. So if it means a lot, you could always upgrade lol.

The M6700 will drive Senn HD600s to "normal" levels and sounds ok. It does not have enough to drive them to "loud" levels. It is about the same as driving them with an iPhone or iPod.

Grados are fine. AKGs are fine.

Any IEM works well. I regularly listen to Etymotic HF3, Shure 425s, and B&W C5's with the M6700.

Has anyone got Linux running on an M6700 with the PremierColor IPS 10-bit screen? I tried using a Kubuntu 12.10 liveCD and after the initial 'boot kubuntu' splashscreen my screen went black and stayed black. I suspect the Linux driver doesn't support the NVIDIA 10-bit mode.
I added a second spinning rust drive into the spare HDD bay, to install Linux onto (dual booting with Win 7/64).

For Win 8 Pro, is there any dell software that is needed to use the finger print reader or is it just built into Win 8. I have not tried it yet other than installing the driver. I believe in win 7 there is a separate program called "Dell Data Protection | Access" but do not see anything line this for 8. This is listed on the dell drivers under win 7 under "Dell Data Protection."

I contacted dell pro support and first they said that win 8 on my system is out of warranty (I assume since it came with 7), but did tell me that Win 8 does not have anything built in and I should look for Dell Data Protection but that is not listed under win 8.

I did find biometrics in the win 8 control panel, but not sure if that is what I should use or if there is something else.

    thanks,

    Mike

I own a M6700 with a FirePro GPU. The HD4000 GPU is not visible in the device manager. Is it permanently deactivated? Is my system Intel WiDi compatible?
