All you need is a flat surface, not necessarily a cooler, but if it's a cooler you want, look at the cooling thread in accessories, there should be a few there that will fit a 16:9 17" laptop.

There is a new firepro driver as of last Thursday if anyone is interested.

Also, I updated my BIOS to A08, everything seems normal so far, but gosh I hate updating a BIOS, always makes me nervous.

I have a U2713HM and a DELL Precision M6700 with Firepro M6000 Graphics. Connecting them with Display Port only allows a resolution of 1920 x 1080 unless according to dell I buy this expensive adaptor as there is not DVI port on my machine.
Adapter : DisplayPort to DVI (Dual Link) Adapter : PC Accessories - Find Desktop Accessories | Dell UK

This is ridiculous as my graphic card supports the resolution the cable does and the monitor does what is the point of this monitor having display port if it doesn't support 2560 x 1440 resolution.

IT SHOULD WORK WITH DISPLAY PORT!

    Sorry just venting!

Hi, is the finger print driver and firmware the files under security and noted as:

    Applies to: MOD,INFO,SECURITY,USH | INFO,SECURITY,USH,2.3

Driver Details | Dell United States

Driver Details | Dell United States

And anyway I can check my firmware version of the control vault before upgrading. I did run the upgrade in win 7 before I upgrade to 8 so I think it is already up to date but I want to verify.

    Thanks,

    Mike

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up on the 55W CPU heatsink. They're available for order now and priced at a LOW $12.99 excluding shipping and tax.

    P\N: 0CRYV5

Dropped my temps nearly 10C on load compared to my single pipe.

Wow, at that price, might as well get one just for the cooling improvement.

Yep! Imo, it's worth more than that! The cooling improvement I've experienced is phenomenal.

The DVI port is obsolete, but the display port supports up to 4k resolution.
Great! My ED is 2/8. I just hope the display is up to regs. This is a major factor for me. Not to mention it would be a major disappointment having to return it as soon as I got it. Hmm, production is slow as molasses.

Incidentally, I have to replace the O drive. Do you think the OEM face place will fit? It appears they don't all have the same connection points.

I wanted to post pictures of the optical bay hard drive caddy...

    Dell Part #: PDG96
    Description: Assembly,Housing,HD-BAY,7MM,M4700/6700

Note: As the description says "7MM" is the height of the hard drives that will fit inside. DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU ARE PUTTING IN THE STANDARD 9.5MM HARD DRIVE. It will only work with 7MM high SSDs like those from Samsung and Intel.

For comparison, I have the Dell caddy on the left (top cover and blue foam inside) and the NewModeUS caddy on the right (no top cover and white label inside). The NewModeUS caddy is black while the Dell caddy is the correct color. Finally, the NewModeUS caddy sticks out by about 1mm while the Dell caddy is flush. If anyone has the part number for the 9.5MM high caddy then left me know.

Full size pictures here: PDG96 vs NewModeUS

EDIT: Two things I forgot to mention... firstly, the Dell caddy is around US$20. Secondly, Dell will send a "refurbished" unit. I went through 3 to get the one in the pictures above. The other two were horribly scratched, bent, etc.

Of note, on either side of the external side of the SATA connector there are 2 holes where tabs from the top-cover anchor. The tabs must be inserted first and then the cover must be pushed down from rear to front. If you try to sandwich the top-cover down flat, then the thin metal strip above the holes will bend down due to the pressure from the protruding tabs. The first two caddies showed that damage too.

Finally, on the inside of the Dell caddy there are two rubber pieces on either side of the SATA connector. These aren't glued in and may fall off. They're meant as bumpers to keep the hard drive in place without putting pressure on the caddy's SATA connector. Just reference the pictures to slide them back on if they fall off.

Anyway, Dell will call me tomorrow about the 9.5mm high caddy (if one exists).

On a totally unrelated note... I exchanged my M6700 again (4th unit) due to another flakey primary bay SATA connector. The exchange order was placed last Monday and it arrived today. It looks like the IPS screen supply issues aren't a problem at the moment.

All you need is a DisplayPort cable. It will hook up directly to the M6700 with no issues. See the other thread that you also posted to. Make sure your drivers are up to date. Should just be plug and play.
