Be thankful you don't live in Australia where we also have currency parity (it's been within ±10% for 2 years now). I've just run through the wizard for a mid-high end M6700 and the Australian price is 78% higher for exactly the same thing! The K5000M option alone adds $3,588.20.

I bought locally for my previous two Dell workstation notebooks but I'm seriously considering buying from the US this time and using a package forwarding service. Even with taxes, duties, currency conversion and shipping overheads I'm likely to be thousands of dollars better off.

The following are the options I chose on both systems, which came to $4,700 in the US and a whopping $8,400 in AU.

    • 3rd Gen Intel® Core™ i7-3820QM Processor (2.7GHz, 8M cache, Upgradable to Intel® vPro™ technology)
    • 17.3" UltraSharp™ FHD (1920x1080) Premier Color IPS RGB Anti-Glare, Premium Panel Guarantee, USH
    • 8.0GB, DDR3-1600MHz SDRAM, 2 DIMMS
    • 1TB 2.5" 5400rpm Hard Drive
    • NVIDIA® Quadro® K5000M with 4GB GDDR5
    • 8X DVD+/-RW Slot Load
    • 3 Year ProSupport with 3 Year NBD Limited Onsite Service After Remote Diagnosis
    • Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300 802.11n 3x3 Half Mini-card

From what I gather on the website, the 97Wh one holds more power and charges faster, but will probably lose a bit of it's capacity in about two to three years, needing a replacement.

he 87Wh one holds less power and charges slower, but it's guaranteed to last with a high capacity for at least 3 years; if it does it under 3 years the warranty gets you a free replacement.

So it's more power user + paying for replacement or average use + not having to pay for the replacement.

    Ordered 7/31 (French guy^^), shipped today 8/8 (estimated 8/21). I just can't wait any longer ^^
I hope it will be fast...

From what I have heard, Dell has get some issue with their internal tracking system. So command has been shipped for some days now, but some I just been updated today (if they really fix their problem).

Edit: A little update on my ship status:
"Netherlands 13/08/2012 2:34 Commande traitée : prête à être gérée par UPS"
So, should be on Tuesday for the delivery... but I will not be at home... will see how I will do.

I think it would negate many of the advantages M6700... ;)

    Best Regards,
    Alex.

PS. In Russia is not possible to order the M6700... (officially)

I feel your pain, Bro. Email me at myusername at gmail dot com and I can help you knock a few hundreds of that price using my EPP discount ;)

Alas, I'm still waiting for Dell to offer the FirePro+IPS configs before I can place my order...

I prefer to buy the boot SSD and additional RAM separately for better choice and better prices. An Intel 520 Series 240GB SSD goes for around $280 and an additional 2x4GB of RAM can be bought for a fraction of the $242 that Dell charges.

Ok, I was misunderstanding you previously. The only calibration available is via software.

Essentially they are the same battery but the 87wHr version doesn't allow you to get it quite as full or quite as empty, thus increasing its usable life span. I'd personally just go for the 97wHr one, and then in a few years get a new fresh battery. :)
