Is the disk controller mode set to "RAID" in the BIOS? If so you'll need to load the Intel Rapid Storage drivers before you can see it.
[Edit] - Whoops I was thinking of Precision 7510, not sure how it works on 5510.

Had a similar issue when upgrading to 1.1.19, my machine wouldn't boot afterwards. Had to roll back to 1.1.15.

Looks like you can find it here:

Works the same on the 5510, I have the XPS version which is almost identical, BIOS is the same for certain and I can confirm that I had to side load the RST drivers upon a clean install.

Has anyone experienced coil whine with the i7 model like it is on the XPS 15?
    Thanks!

Got a new 5510 on Windows 7 with 512 SSD, 32GB RAM. I see that RAID is enabled in BIOS. Can I disable it? I also tried switching the boot mode from UEFI to Legacy with my SSD as the first in the boot options. However it failed to boot with the message no drive found. What gives?

Currently figuring out a way to downgrade the battery to accommodate a secondary HD

    Thanks

Same cases, it's a wedge, thinner in front.

You can't switch between legacy and UEFI boot on the fly. They use different hard drive partition structures and a different boot loader is required as well. "Upgrading" from legacy to UEFI takes some work but it is possible to do in-place. It involves running a tool like gdisk to convert the partition layout from MBR to GPT, creating a new UEFI boot partition, and then reinstalling the Windows boot loader.

If your machine is brand new it is probably simpler to do a new Windows install with UEFI. If you boot the Windows install media with UEFI, it will set your system up for UEFI boot.

If you disable RAID in the BIOS, your machine will BSOD on boot. Before you make the switch you have to do some registry changes. Google for something like "windows 7 raid to ahci" to get the directions.

    Thanks.

I am trying to see if it can work the other way round. the machine is configured with a UEFI boot and I want to revert it to Legacy (UEFI --> Legacy) boot as I don't anticipate having any partition greater than 2GB, ever.Does it mean I have to recreate partions etc. and then do a fresh Win7 install?
I also see two options for drives, sata-0 and sata-1. The machine only has a spot for one hard disc which is currently taken up by teh battery. What does the other interface refer to? Doe the MB have support for two SATA devices?
