I received mine last Wednesday. So far, I really like it. But the real test will come once I'm back in school.

However, I am concerned about the amount of noise coming from my machine. Others have said that there is minimal noise. But, it always sounds like there is a constant fan + read/write noise from mine. I have terrible luck with new computers and I was so hoping it wouldn't follow me with this one.

I'm wondering if it is some of the dell bloatware that's causing the disk to make noise. I tried to find a way to remove the Dell Data Vault, but it has no uninstall executable.

Anyone else with a slightly noisy annoying fan/disk?
EDIT: I think it might be louder than my 5-year old ASUS laptop. Starting to feel like I got a dud. :/

Base Model Upgrades: 16 GB RAM, 1TB HDD, Windows 10 Home

well, my replacement keyboard did not fix the problem. I am still getting double letters frequently, and the space bar has begun to develop that annoying squeak after just a couple of days. so I'm guessing it's not that I had a bad part; it's a design/engineering problem.

unfortunately that means I'll probably return the laptop, which I otherwise love but this seems an unacceptable defect for a $5000 machine.

I've been trying to find a youtube video showing how to disassemble and also how to adjust the spacebar from "the outside". Maybe someone else can find it, I can't :(

Yes. I have received the one for my daughter last Friday, and it is silent. No HDD, though, only SSD. Windows 7.

Most of the time mine is very quiet. Friday at work though I heard a new level of fan speed as I was running quite a few programs at once. It prompted me to elevate the notebook to allow for better airflow from the vents underneath which I could do since the notebook was docked in and I was using external keyboard, mouse, and monitor.

I would suspect this to be normal with the laptop plugged in, as it would indicate the cooling is needed to keep the CPU in turbo mode with the increased workload... you can try running Dell Precision Optimizer or such to see the actual CPU and GPU usage during heavy workloads.

Intel Power Gadget is another good tool for monitoring CPU and iGPU temperature and clock speeds. Won't help with monitoring the dGPU, though.

I contacted Dell support this afternoon. Boot mode diagnostics came back clean. Currently running a SMART Extended Test. Depending on the result, I may need to send the laptop back to get the HDD replaced. However, if the test comes back clean...I guess it's just a loud HDD plus constant background task. I'll have to decide where to go from that point.

Got my 5510 and not liking the keyboard at all especially coming from a Macbook Pro. As for the trackpad, where do you adjust the gestures or multi-tap features? Why is it listed as generic PS/2 mouse under Device Manager? I cannot even find the trackpad drivers on Dell support website either. Do we have the Synpatics touchpad?

Running stock image as shipped from Dell with Windows 10 Pro installed...
