You might be happier with a SSD, as you won't have to worry ever about moving parts, and you'll get better performance (and possibly better battery life) to boot.

Oh, I think I would be! Unfortunately, I don't have the money for such an upgrade right now. But, a SSD is planned for the near-ish future.

SSDs today are falling in price fast, and with new 3D RAM technologies arriving, current gen SSDs are getting even cheaper. 256GB can be had under $80, and $10 or so more puts your HDD in a USB 3 enclisure...

The Precision 15 5510 has the standard trackpad (not the glass multitouch like the XPS 15). It really is disappointing that we can't get the best of both worlds in the Precision line.

If that's true that blows.... weird because I'm pretty sure the 7510 has the glass touchpad...

Suppose it would be simple to go to Device Manager and see exactly which trackpad is installed. ..

If it looks like that in real life as it does in the photograph then I would consider contacting Dell Support and see if they can either exchange the whole unit or replace the display housing. Do you have Pro Support?

A little tough to tell from the pics but it looks like the bezel may be pinching the screen in a few spots causing the light "leak"...

Precision 5510 uses same hw as Dell XPS 15, notebookcheck confirmed that, they grade the same score for both model:

Does anyone else have a rattling Tab and Caps Lock key? The keybord is pretty quiet overall, but those two are louder, especially the tab key. Is it intentional?

I'm more or less interested in replacement. Since "Precision 5510" is technically the only viable option under 2kgs, and I want portability too, thus I have to deal with Dell. I would have gladly purchased ZBook Studio if it was available.

I do have Pro Support, except for the fact that customers in India are treated as, I don't know, "second grade" ?
After initial chat with technical support, they have agreed for a screen replacement, but I'm asking for a unit replacement, since I don't want to have a "Day one" repaired laptop with me. I paid ~$2450 for i7/FHD/256GB/84whr configuration, and I expect complete dedication from their side. And those images are from my camera, with standard exposure, >1s; it exactly represents the real life scenario. There is light bleeding on other spots too, but that is diffused and I can live with that. But this one is concentrated, and definitely is not acceptable.

The bezel is actually to blame, at one spot it is not properly fixed, and hence the lower bleed(slightly red hue), and on the top, it might be pinching, so again the bleed (white one). What is happening with Dell QA.....
