Can somebody confirm/deny this for sure? Dell_mano? What is the difference between the XPS 15 and Precision 5510 trackpads, if any?

It's pretty easy to go to Device Manager (Windows Key-X to the secret menu) and see which drivers are used...

Thanks, I came across this settings page and as you mentioned its pretty **** and cannot change/reassign them nor adjust the track-pad senstivity

Whats the name of the utility you see in Windows 7? On the Dell support site, for Windows 7 OS, I cannot find any such utilities other than re-branded Logitech unifying software

That's pretty stupid and sad. I based my purchase of 5510 based on the XPS 13 my colleague bought. I am more inclined to get the Zbook Studio now

An excellent choice, with much better keyboard layout, and can be built out up to dual 1TB SSDs in RAID. Unfortunately the official prices they list in the HP store are flat-out nuts; easily 30% higher than a pretty much equivalent 5510. Over in the HP forum we're being told that that's typical for HP, and that if you order over the phone there's a good chance you'll get 30% off just for the asking. Nevertheless, that's the one I'm thinking about getting for myself.

As an aside, setting up my daughter's 5510 I wasn't impressed with the speed of the SSD either. I'll have to try that trick of switching over to AHCI mode. I think in Windows 7 all I have to do is switch the disk mode in the BIOS, and then hold F8 while booting so that I can get into Safe Mode. Maybe Windows 7 would boot fine even in normal mode. I'll have to try that.

This works in Windows 8+, but in Windows 7, you have to make a change in the registry before changing the disk controller mode in the BIOS or you will get a BSOD at boot (even in safe mode) --- Windows will try to load the wrong disk controller driver. If you Google about switching from RAID to AHCI, you should find the procedure, it is easy once you know what to do.

Would love to hear how it went with the AHCI switch and if it affected the performance of the PM951.

Has anybody found a method to purchase the 84 Wh (listed as 81 Wh via Customize on the website) battery separately? I'd like to get the cheapest spinning disk, buy the 84 Wh battery separately, and add a Samsung M.2 950 Pro...

Hmm, me too: I tried the various fixes I found (which all amounted to re-enabling the loading of certain disk drivers), but no matter what I did I always ended up with a Blue Screen, and had to go back to RAID mode in the BIOS, in order to make the system bootable. Two questions at this point:

    - Could someone please open regedit and check the value of the Start key in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\atapi and in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\msahci? Are they both set to "3" in the factory state of the system?
    - Has anyone managed to switch the system to AHCI mode, when running Windows 7? If so, what's the trick?

    Thanks!

Was very excited to see the new precisions. Will replace my m6600 with the 7710 and was considering the 5510 as well for travel. However I read a recent review which outlined severe temp induced throttling of both the cpu and gpu....can anyone else confirm this?
