According to the information here the E5570 with an H CPU will support 4 lanes PCIe but as you have a U CPU then you will only get 2 PCIe lanes.

I'm personally holding off getting an NVMe SSD until (i) the price premium over an SATA SSD becomes more reasonable and (ii) I can find an affordable adapter which lets me connect an M.2 NVMe SSD to a USB port so I can get to my data if the computer malfunctions.

Note also that, for most people, the performance improvement of NVMe over SATA in everyday usage is barely noticeable - you need to be reading / writing lots of gigabytes to get the benefit. It's not the same performance leap as from HDD to SSD where both data transfer and data access speeds improved substantially.

I needed more space for my latitude. I found at good price a samsung SM951 512GB NVMe and i preffered that instead of a regular 500GB SSD.

windows 10 installation ISO (latest 14393.576 build) required .inf drivers from intel to recognize the drive)

Working like a charm. Maximum speeds for sm951 are 2150mb/sec write and 1650mb/write with PCIE4x.

Which CPU do you have in your E5570?

    Hello, everyone!

Thinking about ordering an E5570, but I was wondering whether any actual users could help me answer a couple of questions:
    1. Is the touchpad recognised by Windows 10 as a precision touchpad?
    2. Is it possible to set a custom charging threshold (à la ThinkPads)? [Edit: Yes, it appears that's supported with the Dell Command | Power Manager utility.]
I'd be really grateful to hear anyone's opinions on the E5570 after they've been living with theirs for a few months... I tend to keep my laptops going for years, so I need to make sure I select one I can live with long-term without wincing, and it'd also be my first Dell.

    Cheers

I had the E5570 for a few months and it was in most respects a very good machine (see my review). However, I couldn't get used to the keyboard being offset to the left by the numpad which resulted in my left palm sitting uncomfortably on the corner of the computer so it was replaced by the Precision 5510.

I should note that if you have access to Dell Outlet (where you get better value but the same warranty as new) then also look for the Precision 3510 as it's the E5570 with a Precision label.

Thanks for your response, John! I know what you mean about the keyboard being offset... I use the numpad quite a lot, so it's a trade-off for me.

For the future reference of anyone reading this: In response to my own question about whether the E5570 has a modern precision touchpad, I got my hands on an E5470 yesterday (which I'm presuming has the same model touchpad), and it appears that the disappointing answer is 'no'. Having said that, it does seem like one of the better ones, and has gesture support, of course.

I wish some of the newer features like precision touchpads and IR cameras (for Windows Hello face recognition) had trickled down to the more conservative business notebooks by now, but I need a new machine straight away!

Anyway, I've pulled the trigger and ordered an E5570 today.

    Cheers

My Precision 5510 has a Precision touchpad but, apart from the size, I haven't noticed any difference in everyday usage between that and my other Dell notebooks.

Business notebooks are often slower adopters of new features for a three reasons I can think of (there may be more): (i) Get the new features debugged on the consumer notebooks so that they work reliably by the time they reach the business users; (ii) the need for tech support within the businesses to understand the new features and (iii) some new features quickly go out of fashion.

An example of where Dell failed on point (i) was the Thunderbolt + docking on the Precision 5510 but this notebook is basically the consumer XPS15 9550 and there was an obvious demand for a business version. It's just taken Dell the better part of a year to achieve reliability (and, as far as I'm concerned, there's still a bug as plugging anything, including a dumb dongle, into the USB-C port pushes up the system power drain by about 3W).

Anyway, let us know how you get on with the E5570.

    John

    Hello John,
I am trying to make my E5570 accept an M.2 2242 SSD sata drive in the WWAN slot, as you indicated is possible in this post. However, I can not make the BIOS find it. In the BIOS, I have set the WWAN card to on and use AHCI. I am using the latest BIOS which is 1.11. Would you please post a brief tutorial on how you set this up? I have also contacted Dell, but they do not have any information on how to make the WWAN port work for a drive.

Member @paper_wastage is the expert on this and the procedure is discussed in the E5470 forum starting here. The procedure to switch raom RAID to AHCI is summarised here.

Also check whether the 2242 SSD shows up in Disk Management. I can't remember if it is explicitly listed in the BIOS.
