Hi Guys, enjoying your recent conversation regarding the batterys, just purchased a d630, 2.1 cpu, 4gb ram , 160gb hard drive with high res screen with intel video chip.

Question regarding the keyboard, it seems to have the wrong buttons behind the layout. Pretty sure its a UK board as has the euro and pound sign, problem is key number 2 has " on it, but when I press this it gives me the @ sign. Other keys seem to be the wrong way around also.

Intially thought it would be a driver problem but cannot find any software for the keyboard, just drivers for the touchpad.

    Thanks in advance.

Go to Control Panel > Regional Settings and make sure that you have the UK keyboard selected. The Windows installation defaults to a US keyboard.

Hi All. I have a D630 with the following specs:
    T7250 2.0Ghz processor
    4GB RAM
    NVIDIA Quadro NVS 135M
    500GB 16MB 7200RPM Seagate drive
    1440x900 WXGA+ screen
9cell extended battery (runs 5 hours)

    Here's my questions:
    1. If I can find a T9300 2.5Ghz processor for $139.00 Brand new, is it worth the $ to do this upgrade??

    2. With the known NVIDIA GPU issues and pending settlement, even though I have never had problems, should I consider the copper mod, or swapping out for the Intel graphics? BTW my warranty is good 'til July 2013!!

    Thanks.

    1. It's not worth it. Any CPU upgrade is usually not worth it, although if you can find a T7300 or better for a low price, it might be a noticeable difference, as the T7250 only has 2MB cache.

    2. If it's been fine so far, I wouldn't worry about it.

    T7300 4M Cache, 2.00GHz for $50.00 vs T9300 6M Cache, 2.5GHz for $140.00??

With the T7300, I'll just go from 2M Cache to 4M Cache, but with the T9300 I'll go from 2GHz to 2.5GHz and from 2M Cache to 6M Cache...

    Anyone else have any thoughts?

EDIT: I actually found a T7300 for $40.00 brand new--still not sure if I should do it though...

Hi, seen many people being directed to the us ownership transfer form. I am in the UK (united kingdom), anyone had expierence in doing this.

I can find a transfer form for moving the ownership to new owner in different country:

Dell - International Ownership Transfer Form

    But no much else, Thanks

$140 is a lot to be spending on the ticking Nvidia time bomb. Because you don't have any prior service calls, Dell won't swap your motherboard for an Intel one. Also, the thought of getting a refurbished motherboard to replace the original one is not good...

I guess the question here is whether or not you need more CPU power. Is the laptop running slow? Do you do a lot of CPU-intensive tasks (the T7250 is definately sufficient for basic light-to-moderate use)?

@Dinsey, The form to which you have linked is the right one for UK. The only other one available is the one for USA only. I have used the USA form and it worked beautifully within only 20 minutes... I have heard people say that the International Transfer may take up to 15 business days, but as long as you have all the required information for the form, you should be OK.

    Good Luck!

EDIT: Remember, to Dell, anyone outside the US is "International", When the form speaks about the computer being in a "different country", they mean "different than the USA". Just select old owner in UK, new owner in UK.

@Robin24k, I actually haven't had any issues with the CPU being overloaded at all

I guess I'm just looking for excuses to upgrade my laptop for the heck of it :D

Not to mention, it would give me an excuse to pull off the heat-sink and try the copper mod, if anyone ever admits to performing one on a D630 and can tell me what thickness copper shim to use on the Nvidia GPU ;)

    Thanks!
