Yes, if you get a 2.5" SSD, they'll enclose the SSD in a plastic shell that will fit fine. :)

Does the Dell grey plastic casing cover that screws onto the factory fitted internal HDD also screw onto the plastic shell that comes with the 2.5" SSD, ie, is the external casing appearance of the D630 maintained?

    Thx

Yup, it's a standard 2.5" drive with all the screw holes.

    Hi,

Back again with another question in the hope of an answer.

I am still getting some problems with the display in my D630 where it goes periodically all coloured like a kaleidescope on 1440x900 resolution and I think it is coming from the graphics card/driver or possibly the chipset drivers? I have the nvidia quadro 135M graphics card and downloaded and installed the latest driver from the nvidia site for Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit.

Is it possible that the chipset drivers could be contributing to the display probelms as I did not install any specific Intel chipset drivers but let Windows 7 carry out the install as it saw fit? Reading the download instructions on the Dell site for a reinstall of the O/S they indicate it is preferable to install the chipset drivers 1st followed by the video driver then the other drivers.

Dell do not have Windows 7 support for the D630 on their site so I wondered if I downloaded and installed the relevant chipset drivers from Intel for Windows 7 for the D630 board if there is any mileage in hoping it will resolve the display problems?

    Rgds

Sounds like your graphics card is no good. Call Dell and have them replace the motherboard, there's an additional year of warranty on the motherboard due to the graphics card problem.

    Robin,

I am still in the process of getting the warranty transferred as I bought the laptop off eBay UK.

I have sent the online form back to get the warranty transferred but not heard back yet, its 10 days now so I will probably chase it up next week.

Do you know if there is a replacement board for the D630 with the a better nvidia graphics card that resolves the problem or is it just another of the same and hope it is OK? Or, am I looking at a downgrade to an Intel graphics board?

They're still using the same graphics card, but the card will have been refurbished and should be good to go. As long as temperatures are kept moderate, it should be OK. You could try to request a downgrade to the Intel graphics, but that may or may not be granted.

    Hi,

Would anyone please be able to tell me what maximum resolutions are available from a D630 with Intel graphics and D630 with NVIDIA graphics when output to an external monitor?

I am thinking about changing my external monitor to a 24" widescreen that has 1920 x 1200 as native resolution and wish to be sure that both D630 graphics options will be able to output 1920 x 1200 resolution.

I have them both running OK at 1600 x 1200 on my current 20" 4:3 panel but it is not capable of accepting a 1900 x 1200 signal for me to test.

    Thx

I have the Dell service engineer coming out on Monday to repair the toasted D630. I managed to get the warranty transfer accepted and as the transferred warranty runs until 2013 it makes sense to stick with the current D630 to see if I can get it back up and running.

Thx for the advice re the transfer of warranty etc, it has taken a while to get it implemented but it has been worth the wait.

The GMA should be fine outputting 1920x1200, maximum output is a little more than that (2048x1536 I think). It's pretty standard stuff.
