Yeah, I'm more interested in performance/speed differences than battery life.

I wonder if the hybrid drive has been reviewed, yet?

Just wanted to let everyone know...just in case...you missed it...

New BIOS updates are on Dell's site. Revision A03.

I just flashed mine from the factory A02 to A03, and no problems so far..but now I think this computer is ready for new Intel chips...which I won't be getting anytime soon..hehe..

    Best,
    Ilham

You should try a clean install of Vista, rather than an upgrade. It's always a bad idea to do that, especially on newer systems such as this.

    Hello everyone,

I have just read all 21 pages of this thread! Fantastically useful, if a little scary in the finer details!!

I am possibly about to buy the 630 but am a little paranoid about the single mono speaker. I know it's a laptop and speakers are limited but I am really worried about only having one, and it being a mono speaker. I do like to watch DVD's and listen to music without having to plug in external speakers. My current laptop does have stereo speakers.

No one seems too concerned about the speakers, in fact there has been no mention of them at all. It just seems odd to me, in this multimedia age, that a single mono speaker can suffice...

I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this (and thanks to those who already mentioned speakers in another thread I have been involved in).

    Many thanks.

    nick

nickcoffer - the reason is that the D630 was designed and built strictly for business users, thus it eschews some features standard on consumer laptops (separate multimedia buttons, stereo speakers, glossy screen, etc.)

the speaker is rather clear and can get loud, but it's nothing to write home about at all. that's not to say the D630 is not a good multimedia machine per se, but you'd definitely need headphones or an external speaker to make it work.

thanks for taking the time to reply... I struggle to see how a single mono speaker can be anything other than extremely unpleasant and basic but at least, as you say, it can be clear and have some volume. I don't understand why manufacturers can not make a laptop with decent speakers for business use. After all, not all business users are dour, road warriors who never listen to music or use multimedia apps! Do you happen to know if it is the same story on the precisions and on the latitude 830s?

    Thanks

i believe all the Dx30s use the same style chasis and components, so i don't believe it'll incorporate a stereo speaker. it's likely a philsosphical point with Dell, not a space issue with engineering.
