I ordered mine on 10/17 and has a ship date of 11/17. It still says "in production" on the dell website. Hopefully is gets shipped soon. I'm curious what screen the people who are recieving them this week got.

Just got my Covet in.. snapped a few photos. All in all, the extrior build quality is like a rock. The exterior seems to be all aluminum. Very nice quality feel to it. I can confirm that the keyboard flexes a lot. My Precision M90 has zero keyboard flex. This is the only laptop I've ever owned that flexes like this. I hope it's not a longevity problem.

So, does it actually have a glossy display?

Last picture looks more like a mixture of both - matte and glossy. ;-)

I wish it was more "blood" and less "orange", and that power brick is like carrying a couple extra netbooks with you. But for the performance and that RGB LED I'll be getting, so be it.

The screen is definately glossy. I have not yet made up my mind on if this is a good thing or not. I love the chrome "button" you press to open the lid. Very classy. I just moved my 160GB 7200 RPM drive to bay #2 and installed my Intel X25-M 80GB SSD in bay #1. Took just a few minutes and about 6 screws. Make sure you have a small philips head screw driver. (Bigger than eye-glasses screw driver) Inside bay #2 you will find a foam pad which contains extra screws and an adapter for your SATA hard drive to connect to bay #2's different connector. The bottom plate that comes off to reveal the hard drives is plastic.. even though it looks like metal.

Gosh Dang... i gotta have another chat with the missus...

dayum! that's one sweet lookin laptop!

so how long you guys think it'll be before we can order "covet" at lower specs?

covet starts out at $3900 for me... but for regular M6400, i can config one for $3400 range... of course, not including some aftermarket upgrades...

Nixx, is the orange of the covet somewhat anodized finish or does it feel like enameled paint?

Since everybody has seen the exterior pictures, I thought I would pull the back off mine and show some guts.

Picture one shows the bottom view. The panel outlined in black trim is actually raised from the bottom to make room for some of the components inside.

Picture two is the battery charge indicator button and LED's.

Picture three is the battery compartment with the battery removed. The primary hard drive and cage can be seen to the right of the battery compartment.

Picture four shows the back cover and battery removed. Two fans, memory banks, bluetooth, wireless LAN, and AT&T data cards are all installed with one empty compartment for another component. The second hard drive bay is on the left.

Picture five is the same shot but with both hard drive cages and primary drive sitting aside. There are four screws in the foam inside the secondary hard drive cage for mounting the second drive. There is also a slot there that SHOULD contain the interposer, but like someone else mentioned here earlier, mine is missing.

Picture six shows the close up of a drive and the slots that must be mated with the interposer. I'll be on the phone with Dell tomorrow to get one shipped ASAP, as I've got a 500GB Western Digital drive arriving tomorrow.

    Hope this helps someone! :)
