That's about right although you could lower those temps a little by forcing the fan on. I use I8kfanGUI just for that reason. :)

Its a laptop it will get a lot warmer then a desktop. Think about it this way, your desktop has close the the same hardware as your laptop yet the laptop has a wifi card, as well as other pieces of hardware. Not only are these sources of heat, but it is all stuffed into a MUCH smaller chassis then your desktop. The warm air coming out is telling you that the cooling system is working, now if it was cold air there wpould be something wrong.

Basically what your experiencing is normal, its what laptops do.

All I can say is that my 1700 is a tank, and that it has been running 24/7 since I got it in ~January of this year. It plays all the games I want and zips through work like it was nothing. I wouldn't trade this laptop for anything at this very moment.

/agree the build quality on my 1700 is amazing, but so is the 1500 I ordered for my boss last year. The mix between solid construction and metal chasis makes it one sweet rig.

Those temps aren't bad at all. If you get a cooler for it they could improve, but still they are pretty nice for whats packed under the hood of the 1700. To make you feel better my HP that I use for mobile use gets to 80c+. the warmest my vostro ever gets during high multitasking or gaming isnt even noticeable on the palm rests or keyboard, but yes the air coming out of the vent is warm. As I said above this is telling you that the fan is ridding your system of hot air.

Its a laptop its well within spec, especially after a taxing situation like gaming. But dont you love playing WoW at 1920x1200 max settings?

I love mine, and when I used to play WoW it was a dream hooked up to my 24in lcd. As for the t9300 you shouldn't have any issue putting that in, just remember that it will create more heat. But personally it wont make too much of a difference depending on what you got. Granted if you got an older 65nm chip you may actulally reduce heat due to the shrunk down 45nm t9300.

Just to add my name to the list, been a proud owner of the Vostro 1700 for a year and it's been a pretty good companion.

Windows are a bit messed up at the moment, had some dodgy moments installing XP on it and I figure there's tons of stuff on it that I dont need anymore. So I have 4GB of RAM in the post and I'm planning to try out a clean install of Vista x64 ultimate.

Anyone else here use x64? Any issues that I need to know about (apart from loading the SATA drivers to a USB stick before installing) ? :)

The only issue I had installing XP pro was that I had to turn off AHCI. But that was purely because I was too lazy to slipstream the intel SATA drivers onto a new disc. Other then that XP worked perfrect, but Im now 100% vista and loving it.
