Quick question: Can anyone confirm whether the IPS/Quadro 2000m model display port will output 10-bit color? Or is this negated by the Optimus technology?

It does output 10-bit, Optimus is disabled on IPS screens because the IGP can't handle native 10-bit...

Optimus isn't installed with the IPS panel since the integrated GPU doesn't support more than 8-bit. The Quadro 2000M does support 10-bit and hence should work via DP.

That is, the Quadro 2000M inputs to the internal display via an internal Displayport...

That's actually my exact question/proposition. I'm in the market for a laptop, although I'm primarily a desktop guy (photographer). I'm about to upgrade my desktop monitor to a NEC 10-bit capable screen. My older workstation doesn't have a 10-bit quadro. I'd love it if there was a fairly-perfect IPS laptop that I could take with me, and then when in the office hook it up to the NEC via DP to continue the 10-bit color & quality.

Of course I'd love the M6600, but it doesn't seem like it'll have IPS anytime soon. If this M4600 screen/gpu/cpu was decent though overall... Opinions?

It's your GPU that would seem to be the bottleneck...but the M4600's GPU choices can drive 10-bits per primary color...

My LG Display Panel had a violet touch so dell changed it to a Samsung one. As I see it the Samsung Panel is much better in colour rendering. Does anyone got the same problems with a LG Panel or other WLED Panels, because I'll buy a second Precision and I thought about taking an IPS Display.

How difficult is it to remove the dvd burner drive? I am used to the old latitude and inspiron removable drives that had a eject switch. Obviously there is none on the m4600. how many screws does it take to remove it?
    Thanks

I was thinking I should just buy the dvd sata adaptor for a hdd and use it as a 2ndary HDD and using a 64gb SSD or 80gb SSD as a primary drive.

I think that's the best way to go, as the msata HDD's on the market are stupid expensive and the large capacity SSD's (above 120gb) are in the same ball park. I dont really use the dvd burner too much anyway.

I like having the primary os drive imaged, so if anything goes wrong, I could just slide in the Imaged drive, no problem. buying (2) 64gb ssd's is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying (2) 256gb SSD's.

    Thanks for any input

anyone know if the m4600 does 6gb/s sata? makes a difference when buying a SSD. Thanks.

If you know what chipset it uses that would help too.

Shouldn't make much difference in real life performance but the main drive is SATA/600. Not sure about the ODD connection though.
