    This update doesn't display in my personal Latitude E6500 updates, I have to switch to the all updates for E6500 screen to see it. I have the FIPS compliant fingerprint reader (the big, full thumb pad that comes with the Wave embassy software). Does this update apply to my reader? How do I identify what firmware mine currently is running?

    P.S. Latest firmware seems to be A07 released 2/12/09

    The firmware applies to the Broadcoam USH hub that controls the TPM module & smartcard/fingerprint scanner.

    So yes, it'd apply to your FIPS fingerprint scanner as well as the other UPEK fingerprint sensor as all ESeries notebooks use the same Broadcom USH hub + TPM chip regardless of whether a fingerprint reader is present or not.

    Run the A07 update - you most likely need it, and if you don't, it won't change anything.

    After running the A07 firmware update, run the new A11 Security Driver, (leave the unchecked option alone since you have the FIPS scanner), reboot, and then run the new A10 Security Manager (select all 4 options when prompted to install/update).

    the bigger question is whether anyone has gotten any fingerprint reader working WITHOUT (or i guess with, but without would be better) the wave ETS software in windows 7

    Not quite sure about that; however, in Vista, after enrolling a fingerprint, I tried uninstalling ALL the Wave software - the preboot fingerprint authentication still worked.

    well, i can actually confirm that with the latest drivers available with dell, ETS works seemingly ... well ... in windows 7. as to your point about uninstalling, this is of course possible, but i wanted to be able to use the fingerprint reader without relying on the embassy software, but hopefully that will come later.
