I'm going to be able to order a Lappy on monday, And since I'm ordering through my moms work I CAN NOT go over $2000 with tax, Which means I can't go over $1880 on basic price...
I've chosen the M4400 of course

I would like to have the fx 1770m but it's not even out yet... Should I wait? And how the site is priced and with everything else I want I think that would go over anyways...
Heres what I plan to get as of now

But since I'll be ordering over the phone would the rep easily be able to get me the fx 1770m with no problems without droping anything else?

How new of a Linux kernal will I need? Cause I really don't want to use Ubuntu 8.10 beta (Or any Ubuntu for that matter...) But if I have to I could...
    I would preffer Dreamlinux though

Since I'm ordering on the phone how can I get some good free stuff from the rep? (I'de LOVE an extra battery, or better mouse/cooling pad/other stuff bundle would also be great (Right now I have the cheapest one) or anything else they can give me for free

    I know it's not yet...
It's supposed to be out sometime this month
I'm just wondering if it'll be worth waiting for?

well from what i read in a few other threads it should provide 20% more performance, but the price you pay is more heat and power consumption. its the same card as the 770 but with higher clocks

i'd hate to answer a question with a question but... will you make good use of it?

i know getting top of the line processor and graphic cards for what i do is not needed and so something like 8800gtx and super duper processor is not worth it for me... and frankly i rather stay away from added heat... iirc the M4400 has 1 fan, right?

well the holistic thermal design is what you should look at, not just the number of fans....

the thermal design of the m4400 seems ok,

quoting from weegie in another thread:

Pulled mine apart tonight and removed the heatsinks etc, dell put a lot of their hard goop all over everything, the video memory chips are cooled by the heatsink as well, but use the blue wax pads [two of which were not touching the heatsink out of the four]
I removed their huge amount of hard thermal paste and put on AS5 on the GPU,CPU,and the two blue pads that were not touching [don't know if that will help, but we'll see]
I'm interested to see if any of this will reduce the max temp [84 deg C] when gaming, but will probably need a few days for the thermal compound to settle.
I haven't had any downclocking issues with mine so far but I'm curious as to whether Dell will use the same cooling for the FX 1700M being that its overclocked and probably overvolted also.

It surprises me that they give the cpu soo much more radiator cooling area compared to the much hotter running GPU,also the heat pipe is much larger for the cpu,but I guess they have to consider the extreme cpu thermal req which from what I've seen on other notebooks, can run stinking hot, compared to my lowly P8600.

The temps of a model spec'd with the extreme cpu and FX 1700M will be interesting though,as the air is first blown through the cpu radiator and then through the GPU one....so a much hotter processor will equal much hotter air passing through the GPU cooler which will also being trying to cool a hotter running 1700M......they will need to do something different, otherwise it'll be a lap stove.

Thats what I've been thinking about myself
    Maybe not but maybe
Great ghx aren't really important when playing games for me, But they are nice to have
But I do plan to do a pretty good amount of gaming on this Lappy
For all the games I would like to play right now the 770 would be fine
But I want to use this Lappy for awhile...
But I also want to get it asap...
And I'm not sure if I could get the 1770 anyway...
So I'm leaning torwds just getting it with the 770

Anyone know where a review is for this Lappy? I still can't find one
Or would one of the kind people on these forums already owning one give us a review?
