They score the same in vantage over on notebookcheck. I would say the biggest advantage the firepro has is the tdp being so much lower, even when overcloked (830mhz in the core from 700, extra 100mhz on the mem) it barely broke 65C. 5000m kept driver support longer and the extra gig of vram might come in handy for a few games.

If you can get some firestrike bench's I can compare to my friends m7820.

The thing is that if I install memory chips on the other side of the card, I would have to think of the way how to cool them down. I suppose there's no way for doing that as that's the main board side.

    Don't bother mate. It doesn't work, I've tried. The max ram config for M6400 is 16GB (4 x 4GB).

On the flip side, my M6400 just recently died on me. It is refusing to power up. Just bought a replace motherboard to give it a try.

Could you please be more specific about that? What did exactly happen when you tried to boot up with 8GB sticks?
It could just show a half of RAM installed.

The M6400 cannot support 8GB sticks. It will not boot up at all and the LED lights will blink in a sequence telling you there's a memory problem. I have used the 8GB sticks from my M6500 and M6800 and it is the same issue.

On another front, I tried 8GB sticks on an E4310. It boots up fine to the BIOS which shows the correct RAM size but will go into boot loops when trying to get into the OS.

Could you please post here what's written on the RAM chips?
