The Core 2 Quad/Duo CPUs are unable to support 8GB sticks. That's my experience and also mentioned by the datasheets.

If you don't believe me, just go ahead and try it on yours. :)

It's never been up to CPU where the memory controller is outside of it. It's all about the memory controller inside Q43 in our case. I'm reading its datasheet to understand how it works.
And I have Intel D5400XS that supports Core 2 and 8GB RAM sticks. Just an example :)
I need to know what RAM chips you have tried as I want to find its datasheet to understand how it all works and realize if a particular DDR3 module will work. If it won't, then try to understand why and trick Dell if the limitation is in its BIOS code.

    The M6800 is using "Kingston HyperX 2133MHz, HX321LS11IB2K2/16, (4 x 8GB)".

    The M6500 is using "Crucial Technology, BLS8G3N169ES4, 16FE (4 x 8GB)".

Thanks. But this information printed on stickers is not really helpful. Could you please check what's printed on the chips themselves?

You are in luck. One of my HDD in the M6500 died on me. So I'm replacing it with a HDD from the M6800 and in turn replacing that HDD with a new SSHD.

I will let u know what's printed on the chips, in the M6500 & M6800, itself later on.
