You at least have to change the display cable, but I'm not sure if you need to change the lid as well...

hi there, I just bought a M6400, and met some strange issue with setting up uefi mode. From my searching on line, i saw the normal boot list option should have both "legacy" and "UEFI" available, as highlighted in the red circle. But on my machine, I have no "boot list option" section in the same screen.

I was trying to install windows 8 with UEFI, but could not get it in UEFI mode first. Appreciate help on that. Thanks a lot!

Well, the lids are definitely different presumably due to the different backlight system/parts being used, but not sure if you can somehow mod the standard lid to fit the LED backlight part.

    Hi everyone !

I came here looking for some help, I hope someone will give me some clues about a problem I have : M6400 CPU Upgrade

I tried to install a QX9300 in place of a T9600. I cleaned everything and put thermal paste.
When I power on, the laptop power off in 2 seconds and the 3 diagnostic lights (Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock) are flashing at the same time.
I looked on the troubleshooting guide and it says its a 'System board failure'.

So my question is : is there something else I have to do to replace the cpu or is the new CPU not functioning (I bought it second hand) ?

Motherboard is fine as I put back the T9600 and the laptop is running again, A13 bios on it.

    Thank you very much !

How many ram slots do you have on the motherboard? There should be two ram slots on the bottom of the laptop and two beneath the keyboard.

To use the quad core you need to populate all four ram slots (I might be wrong though).

    Really?

My last two quad core machines shipped with 2 of four slots filled, and I filled the extra two later on.

    Hi DynamiteZerg,
    All slots are used, 4 x 2GB, 1066MHz, DDR3-1066 PC3-8500.
Could it simply be the cpu that is dead ?

I stand corrected. It might be that both channels need to be filled instead of all 4 slots.
